Chicago, Sept. 18.—There was not much
doing in the whoat market today. Trad
ing was confined almost entirely to the
local crowd ruling quiet and uninterest
ing, the range for the day being limited
to He. Wheat opened' steady and practi
cally featureless. Towards the close the
traders became bullish and on light offer
ings and good buying by prominent com
mission houses, the market firmed up,
closing at about the top price of the
day in some sympathy with the strength
In corn. December wheat opened at 5GH;
sold between 5GHa% and 557tat>6; closing
at oCHaSCH—Ha%c. higher than yesterday.
Cash wheat was quiet. Prices were
changed.
Corn opened steady on lighter receipts
than was estimated, but weakened later
on thq Impression that the estimated re
ceipts for tomorrow would) be *o?ge; ’ At
the decline the market was held steady on
fair buying by the country. When -the
light estimated 1 receipts for to-morrow

on good buying by the country and cov
ering by local shorts. The close was firm
at about the top price of the day. May
opened at 53Via%; sold between 54U and
KiVia.%; closing at 54a%—He. higher .than
yesterday. -• . . .
Oats were quiet and prices throughout
the entire session held about steady, me
disposition to trade either way lim
ited and few sales were effected. It closed
firm in sympathy with the strength in
corn. May closed unchanged fromryes-
terday. Cash oats were In far demand.
Prices were a little easier. - _
Provisions were dull. The market ruled
rather firm during the greater portions of
the day and prices for all the leading spec

at about the top figures of the day in sym
pathy with the strength In the grain
markets. January pork closed 15 cants
