Funeral or Mrs. Evans—Fire at the Oil
aillls Comes Near Proving; m Seri

Visitors In the City.
Tho funeral of Mrs. J, F. Evnns took
place from the family residence * on
Wood street. South Macon, ou Wednes
day morning at 10 o'clock. The relig
ious services were conducted by the
Ilev. Dr. Darner of St. Barnabas Epis
copal church,
Tho remains were deposited In Uielr
last resting place In Rose Hill'ceme
tery on the family lot.
A distressed husband and two little
children are ail that Is left of this once
happy household, and It Is the hope of
all . that an indulgent providence will
deal gently with them la this sore aud
almost unbearable affliction.
Mrs. Evans was the wife’of Mr. J.
F. Evans of the Central railroal and
the sister of Messrs. Adolphus and
Mlzer Wood, all well-known-resident*
of South Macon.
Mrs. Evans was sick only two days
at the moment when her affliction,
heart failure, had a fatal termination
at 4 o'clock on Monday afternoon,
while surrounded by her family and
friends.
A slight commotion was experienced'
about tho Georgia Oil Mills Thursday
afternoon by tho lint near the elevator
catching on file, which Instantly spread
In every direction. The burning lint
reached the elevator and it might have
been n serious and disastrous lire lint
was fortunately soon extinguished. The
cliemlc&l engine, No. 1 steam lire en
gine and the ladder trues wore on tbo
grounds In a very short while. No
damage of any cous.derable amount
was done.

South Macon, now a resident of Macon
county, is spending a few days witU
