from Washington to spend the holidays.
In answer to my query as to congres
sional intentions, tfnd the prospect of
favorable action on thj Carlisle cur
rency bill, he said:
"There is opposition to the measure,
some of it, too, from Southern mem
bers, but 1 think we will be able to
pats it in the house. What it’s fate
will be when it reaches the senate Is
a problem difllcult to sotfve. It is a
measure that may not suit in every
particular, but It is a step in the right
direction and the Democrats should
support it. If it is defeated in the sen
ate the people will know where to
place the responsibility. If we fail to
pass the bill the Republicans will pass
n similar measure as soon as 'tho next
congress convenes, and In the campaign
of 1896 parade the inability of the Dem
ocratic party to icgislate for the ben
efit of tho people. They oppose the
measure now because they know It will
operate against them in a presiden
tial campaign."
Dropping into Ordinary* Mobley’s of

and inquiring of Clarence Brantley, who
was officiating as a deputy today for
Capt. Mobley, tho cause of such a
crowd, he replied:
"After marriage licenses. Five-cent
cotton wont stop them. I have issued
seven so far, and have only commenc
