of the trial was therefore a triumph of
surprise instead of disappointment as it
might have been If he had overestimat

that skilled negro labor Is employed.

In great contrast with conditions nre-

Commissions of Chatham
Thoir Names in Jury Box,
SAVANNAH. Gn.. Dec. 16.—An in
teresting question has Just been set
tled by the Jury commissioners of
Chatham county. This was as to
whether lawyer’s nnd doctor's names
should be put In the Jury box and they
should thus bo made liable to be drawn
for service. At first the commission
voted four to two In fav.or of mak
ing the professional men liable, but
today this action wjih reversed, nnd It
wns decided to leave their names out
of the box. It was concluded that the
doctors would avail themselves of
their exemption, thus making the court
officers trouble for nothing, and that
it would be a dangerous thing to hnve
lawyers serve on Juries, ns their su
perior knowledge of the law might be
used to unduly influence the other
members of the body.
