Lieutenant Grace of the police force
iptured a negro yesterday In a aeries
of robberies, the smoothest known to
that officer In years.
Clothing, such as coats, pants, shoes
and h&ta had ben missed from one of
the hotels for some time and the pa
tronage was being robbed systemati
cally without any mean* of catching
the robber. Many valuable garments
had been missed and no one could
trace them down.
The police force noon began to sus
pect a negro porter who gives his
name as Will Frederick. Yesterday
Lieutenant Grace found his oppor
tunity and sent an officer to arrest the
negro as he was attempting to sell two
coats to a negro from the country on
Poplar street He still had the coats
when carried to the police station.
The officer stated that the negro had
been accustomed to offer clothing for
sale on this street when he could find
a customer from the country. He
usually stated to the buyer that he was
selling them for his employer who had
taken them In payment of board bills.
No one suspected the negro for some
time and it i* said that he kept up
this scheme for several weeks.
The negro Is now at the barracks
awaiting a hearing before the recorder
this morning.

month. Prince ftvtntopolk-Mtraky, M.
Witte and Count Bolshy, favored a
policy of concession, but tho others
opposed ouoh n policy on the ground
that ths demands of the xemstvolsta
were subversive of the essential prln*
