Since member* of the finance com
mittee of council held their meeting
Thursday night many Interesting
things have been gathered through the
leaks'* and It Is now generally known
that this committee will recommend to
the next meeting of council a special
tax of $100 upon any person In the
city of Macon using trading stamps
during 1906. The severer recommenda
tion was that an additional tax of
$200 be levied upon trading stamp
companies In the city or any person
selling them.
Jt was intended by the finance com
mittee that this Information he kept
uotil the meeting of council next Tues
day night on account of the fact that
these will only be tentative and cannot
become city laws until council passes
upon them.
It seems that the committee directed
their attention specifically to the use
of trading stamps in the city and If
their recommendations are adopted in
council it will be hard for the little
stamp to exist In Macon.
The committee did not change the
saloon license for the coming year, but
i Is not known that there will be no
change recommended. There IS to be
another meeting of the finance com-

SCENE AT TIIE ARMORY
mittee before the regular aoeslon of
council next Tuesday night and no oner
can tell what action will be taken.
The committee also disowned the
appropriations for the coming year,
but did nothing that "leaked” yester
day and the. final recommendations are
to come. This Is the most Important
duty before the finance committee and
will require considerable thought.
There was little done in this line.
In discussing their Intentions for
the coming year the members of the
finance committee of council yesterday
told of their recommendations to the
body in which they will ask a raise of
salary for several of the city officials,
chief among them are officers of the
police force.
Chief Conner is to get $1,600 Instead
of $1,320 and the three Ucutcnants'wUl
get $1,100 instead of $1,060. Chief
Jones of the fire department will have
an Increase of $5 per n\ont i. dfedef
Sanitary Inspector Delts will have an
increase of salary amounting to $160,
which will put him up to $930. Tho

Another step has been taken which

facing charges in the recorder’s court
and answering questions before the
coroner since the mysterious, occur

appear before the grand Jury of Bibb

expected that a thorough investigation
will be made and this body, as Tho
Telegraph has Indicated, will make a
moat diligent search for testimony
which the members hope will In some
manner lead to the discovery and ap

fatal ahot.
No one knows how many persons
have been summoned before the grand
Jury for Monday’s session. The depu

and as fast as the person sought could
be located the summons was served
and little else was said. Neither depu

would make any statements. The pa

Solicitor Brunson has been very busy
with this case and has lost no time In
gathering information, ire has not
been satisfied with the Investigations
made by the coroner’s Jury, although
this body of men made a most assidu
