-A Mistaken-
Idea
Perhaps yon have an idea that in oyier to have a
bank account you must have a large sum to deposit;
that a bank doesn’t care to bother with small accounts.
This is not true of the “Fourth.” This bank wel
comes new accounts, no matter how small, and extends
the same courtesy and service to small depositors as to
large ones. '
Let us prove it to you.

NEW YORK. Nov. 9.-The Irregular

throes of the .process of digestion to
which the market was subjected by rea

Although the market staggered under
this treatment it showed g strong absorp

This action served to keejv up speculative

DUN’S REPORT OP BANK CLEARINOS FOR OCTOBER. '
OnSsbsr beak clearing* elearly reflect the depressing effect on trade ef the eieotios, and
the consequent contraction of settlements through the banks, total hank exchanges for the
month at all cities reporting in tho United States, embracing mere than 100 of the leading
cities, according to the monthly statement of B. G. Dun A Co., being 612,129,994,465, a de
arest* of 12.1 per oest. compared with a year ego and 16.8 per ecnL compered with Octo
ber, 1906. Tho disturbance lu the financial markets a jeer ago did not affect bank cleerings
mates Uly until November; in October, 1906, trade waa very satire, and the total for that
mcath was oloee to the high-water mark. Bank clearings this year have averaged more than
20 per eent below norma), the losses being especially heavy In the eerly months. A marked
improvement appeared later, though October la an exception. Had the improvement shown
in September been maintained, October bank exchanges would have keen fully 62,000,000,000
larger Chen the aggregate given above, and the amount would have been generally distrib
uted throughout the oountry. The disturbance has been more marked in the East and Booth
than in the West, where losses are generally small. There Is a Urge loss in the Middle At
lantia States, due chiefly to the heavy losses at PbiUdeiphU, Pittsburg and ether leading Iron
oeatera. In the Sooth Atlantic States losses are also heavy, particularly at Baltimore. Com
perison la made below of bank exchangee by sections covering three yes re; also the average
daily figure* for October and the nine preceding months:
