| Yesterday was the regular hack In -

city were around the city hall for the
Inspection by the chief of police.
Asked how they came ou* during
the fair Just dosed, one of them said:
"We didn't average a bit more thaif
when there alrit any fair here. You
see there were a number of extra
hacks. The drayrnfn and every man

Over three or four dollars. We can
do that much any old time.”
The automobiles did a good business,
whether or not they made us much
as the hacktm-n say they did. They
carried the passengers down to the
park In a hurry, and tho fare was onlv
fifteen cents. Being open, they were
used a ood deal by strangers for a
ride over town, and this of course
brought in some extra money, it is
probable that u regular automobile lino
will be established, and the trains
be met by them.
The regular hnckmen "view with
alarm" the advent of the automo>

ways be more or less in demand.

The Japanese tea room that has been
doing such a rushing business in tho

to 112 Second street, next to the Bos
ton confectionery store.
The tea room Is being operated by
the directors of Heimath Hall, and for
the Benefit of that Institution. The
ladles have met with such great sue
ces* In this enterprise that they hav
decided to continue th«- operation of
the tea room until after Christmas,
and If It still continues to do a profita
ble business they will in all probability
make It a’permunent institution.
A great many gentlemen as we]
ladles have become steady patrons of
the tea room, and considering tho
dainty lunches that are served and the
reasonable prices charged, to say
nothing of the fair waitresses, there
Is no reason why the tea room should
not enjoy a continuous run of pros

SHADOW MAY Fill ON
POPLAR STREET PARRS
It. is Said an Injunction May Result
if the Parks are Plowed—May
Come Up at Council Masting.
There i 8 a possibility that the Pop
lar street parka will not be green with
grnas when the birds warble In the
spring.
No sooner did the people read In
The Telegraph yesterday morning that
Aledrmnn Brunner was going to take
the bull by the horns and the plow
by the handle'll nnd plow up the parks
and *«w them In grass from one end
to the other, than a shadow bearing
Ihe image of on Injunction wa* thrown
on the parks and the ruitle of a peti
tion was heard In the direction of
council meeting tonight.
"When our store was on Poplar
street.’ 1 said Mr. J. P. Hodges, of the
Georgia Furniture Company, "J was
all alone In wanting those parks In
grass and thus make the street as
pretty as the other streets of the city.
1 still think the city should remove
all the unsightly things on them and
make parks of them."
There was a rumor In'the* afternoon
that a petition protesting against
grassing the parks wonld be gotten up
and prensnted to coifhcil. In other
quarters there was a hope expressed
that Alderman Brunner wquld carry
out his Ideas,
For some reason work was not be
gun yesterday, but It Is understood
thnt the nlowinr will begin this morn
ing on the park between Third and
Fourth street* - The building material
on the upper park will prevent any
work being done on It for a little
while.
It is probable that the matter will
come before the council at Its meet
ing tonight In some shape or another.
