market was nervous and Irregular today
at a net deollne of

The market opened barely steady at
decline of Ia5 points and during the first
hour sold off to n net loss of 8a7 points
owing to-lower cable* than exacted, the
bearish estimate of the world’s require
ment* by a leading Rngllsh statistician
who places the probable consumption of
cotton for the season at 12.165.000 bales,
and locnT bear pressure promoted by
pertatlon* of pre-holiday realising.
Offerings were very well taken nt the
decline, however, with buying encouraged
by bullish reports from dry goods circles
and during the afternoon the market
developed considerable strength on cov
ering by early sellers and support from
Wall street and southern hull*. After
selling up to about the closing prices of
last night, with March and May showing
net advnnco of 1 point, howev
tered realising and a renewal of local
8outhern U *pot markets were unchanged
to 1^16c. higher. Receipts seemed to be
running a little heavier, probably fore
shadowing the end of the month ship
ments. One of the leading wholesale dry
goods houses announces thnt It will great

Receipts of eotton at the ports today
were 104.735 bales agnlnst 90.413 bales last
week and 67.025 bales last year. For the
week (estimated) 400.000 bales against
405.430 bales last week and 335,830 bales
last year..
