Affidavits tending to prove the char
acter of Mr. Moll are signed by. Messrs.
Harry C. Nix, 8. A. C. Kvtrett. Ben
Stewart, A. H. Rice. C. T. Garden. Geo.
Watson.'Henry Merkle. W. H. Daniel. J*
H. Williams, W. W. Williams and John
T. Moore. Affidavits testifying as to the
good character of Messrs. Minton and
Irvine are a part of the defense's evi
dence.
Mr. Fogarty refutes the charge against
him by<deelniIng, in his affidavit: “When
my nnme was called as n Juror to nn-
*'■* the voir dire questions propounded
I was entirely free from bias and
prejudice." The state’* officers believe
that this statement Is sufficient to offset
»y accusations made by the defense.
With these new papers, the appeal In
the Orr case, which was forwarded to
Atlanta yesterday, now comprises about
600,000 words. ,

One week after this conversation
Tom Jackson, who had learned tho

The witnesses swore that he had run
his automobile at a rat n of speed that
was terrific, and that he paid no at
tention tp* the policeman who tried to
hnlt him, and that he canrt* near col
liding with wagons and buggies and
All sorts of vehicles, and that Indies
crossing the streets were screaming
w’th fear that they would be run
over, and that the chauffeur sat In the
machine smoking cigarettes and ap
parently Indifferent to the trouble he
was causing.
After the testimony was all In Tom
Was Called on for his statement. One
week had transformed him from the

The first train* on the new schedule
between Eatonton and Macon arrived
in the city yesterday morning at 9:30
o’clock loaded- with .passenger. Theso
passengers were from Eatonton, Gor
don, ‘Milledgevllle and other points
ulong the line, "and nil seemed to be
highly delighted with the change In
the schedule.

not-'only for the railroad, but for tho
’merchants of Macon with whom tho
passengers come to the city to - trade.

were Christmas shoppers, and spent
the day In Macon, returning c
o’clock yesterday aftornoon, arriving
In Eatonton at 7:30 In plenty Of time

SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 26.—William
McDonough, pay clerk of the battle
ship Missouri. Is held In Irons on tie
prison ship Manila at Marc Island,
because ho thought more of his sweet
heart than he did of hU Job. It was
In far. off Amo> on the Chinese coast
that McDonough decided to cut away
from the life on fhe sea and to Join
the girl who had waved him goodbye
when the fleet sailed from San Fran
cisco. In his haste to return the young
Official cast to the winds the atrlct
regulations of the service and reached
San Francisco only to he arrested as
a deserter. Before he could commu
nicate with the young girl who nwalt
<-«l -his coming he was put In Irons and
under orders from Washington he was
sent last night to the prison ship at
the navy yard.
McDonough is prominently connect
ed in the east and came to San Fran
cisco with flip fleet with letters to
people of consequence In the commer
cial and social Ilf© of the city, lie at
tended many of the dances and re.

Returns to Claim Bride.
The celebrations at Honolulu and

launch parties to the shore. The next
clay the formal letter of wlthdnwal
from the service was found on his
desk. McDonough had disappeared.
An examination was made of tils ac
counts. but no Irregularity has been
charged. Then It was learned from one
of McDonough’s comrade* thit he had
oftep spoken of leaving the ship to
Join his fiance- In Hnn Francisco.
