“♦■••-•‘A poM*s hand and prophet’s fire,
Sthtck the wild warbling# of his lyre.”
Prom the Xem-York Doily Advertiser.
Tim WIPE.
•The flung her white arms around him—thou art ah
this poor heart ran cling to.
1 could have stemmed misfortune’s tide,
And borne the rieit one’s fitter;
Have braved the haughty glance of pride,
Nor shed a single tear;
2 could have smiled on every blow
from life’s full quiver thrown*
While I might gaze on thee and know
I should not he alone
2 could—l think I could have brook’d
E’en for ti time, that thou
Upon my fading face had’st thoa looked
With less of lovf than now ;
For then 1 should at te-tst have felt
The sweet hope still my ovfrfi,
To win thee back—ltd whilst I dwelt
On earth, not been alone.
Brt tints to sec, from day to day.
Thy brighl’ning eye and cheek,
f,nd watch thy life-sand wastaway,
“Unnumbered, slowly, meek!
To meet thy smile of tenderness,
and catch the feeble tone
Of kindness, ever breathed to bless
And feel, I’ll be alone.
To mark tko strength each hour decay
And yet thy hopes grow stronger,
A3 filled with heavenward trust they say,
'‘Earth may not claim thee longer,”
*\ly, dearest, ’tis too lunch—this Loaf!
Must break, when thou ertgonc,
It must not be, we may not part
I could not live alone.
