Tlie Watermill.
I The original arrangement, republished by
1 request. |
Listen to tho watermill, all the live-long
day—
How the creaking of the wheels wears the
hours away!
Languidly the water glides, ceaseless on
and still
Sever coining back again to the water-
And a proverb haunts my mind as the spell
The mill will never grind again with the
water that has passed.
Tako the lesson to yourself, loving heart
and true,
Golden years are passing by, youth is pass-
ing too -1 ” a
Try to make the most of life, lose no hon
est way:
All that you can call your own lies m this,
to day.
Power, intellect and strength, may not, can
not last— . . , ... ..
The mill will never grind again with the
water that lias passed.
Oh, tho wasted hours of life that have flit-
ted by!
Oh, the good we might have dono—lost
without a sigh1 ...
Love that onco wo might have saved wi'h
a single word,
Thoughts conceived, but not expressed,
perishing unheard!
Tako tho lesson to your heart—take, oh,
hold it fast J ....
The mill will novor grind again with the
water that has passed.
t'AHt NOTES. '
The Park 1 Frlvllegaa Rented— A
(irnnd Exhibit nuff J*r«« ?r*W«,
hamter counly has entered fO'r the comi
ty premium at the State fair.
Talbot county has engaged extra cars to
ship their entire exhibit by next Saturday
to Macon.
The stables are rapidly filling up with
fine racers of all descriptions, and a very
fine stock display is looked for.
A number of fine organs, melodeons and
pianos are already in Floral Hall, and no
doubt this will be cuo of the finest displays
of the fair.
The Indies are busy in fixing their fine
display of needle and lace work, and show
cases are in good demand.
Next Monday we will witnoss c busy time
nt the fair gronnds until the day of open
ing.
A largo lot of patent reapers, mowers and
rakes are stored in maohinery hall and the
largo 40-horse power engine will be speed
ily placed in position.
The diilerent halls, as Floral, Premium
and Manufacturers’ Hall, and tho ladies
and president’s cottages are thoroughly in
order for the coming fair, and our mer
chants and others can go to work at nny
time arranging their display.
Tho grounds arc, owing to the vigilance
of our energetic park keeper, Mr. Dreyfus,
in excellent order. The fountains will play
daily daring the fair, and the lakes are all
filled with the clearest water, supplied by
oar excellent water works.
'ibe privileges of bar daring the fair has
beon awarded to that prince of "drink
mixers,” Penny Havens, with a corps of
able and good assistants, and the bar will
be stocked with tho finest beverages of tho
age.
Tho cigar stands are awarded to Mr. Sam
Weichselbaum, and lovers of the weed cun
rest assured that Sam will offer nothing
less than pare Havanas.
Tho confectionery, lemonade and fruit
stands are under the supervision of Messrs.
Reeves and M. R. Regers * Co.*, and their
names and experience vouch that nothing
will be left undone in their line to satisfy
the public.
The Dining Hall will bo rnnby Mr. Chas.
Dreyfus, our present park keeper, and will
be open all hours in the day, and the deli
cacies of the season served at any hoar
wanted. The kitchen will be under the
charge of Joo Clayton, the well-known
cook and caterer of long yeais’ experience.
Dr. Carver and his son, with their never-
fading rifles, a nnmber of fine side shows,
a large entry of race horses, a fine display
of poultry, and still tho grand display of
our town merchants who haven large space
already assigned to them and daily asking
for more, wi'I, no doabt, help to make our
fair a success.
Passengers arriving last night on the
Southwestern train, tell us that the people
in southwest Georgia are very enthusiastic
over the fair, and intend coming in largo
numbers to tho exhibit on.
Mr. Jacob Siesol, ft Macon, arrived last
night from Americas. He says Sumter
county proposes sending a fine delegation
of her people to the lair. Much interest is
being manifested there in regard to the
exhibition.
Many will stop at the Stato Fair on their
way to the Cotton Exposition. The hotels
are making sufficient arrangements for the
reception of all comers.
We learn from the Bamesvilio Gazette
the following:
The agricultural society, in session last
Saturday, appointed committees, we un
derstand, to see what display conld be
made at the State fair. It is hoped that
onr county will bo well represented, which
no donbt it will, if the matter be left to the
care and the advice of the society is taken.
77b had the pleasure of meeting, yester
day morning, on their way home from At
lanta, Cols. Thomas and Cook, from
Thomasviile, who promised a good atten
dance from old Thomas at our coming
Stato fair.
The great European traveler, Connt
John B. Gorman, on his way home to Tal-
button from Atlanta, chartered, in the
time between the arriving and leaving of
the Southwestern train, ten cars to con
vey tho entire Talbot county fair to our
State fair next week. Sumter, Pike, Jones
sad other counties, look to yoar laurels.

AYER’S AGUE CURE,
For the Speedy Relief of
Fever and Ague, Intermittent Fever,Chill
Fever, Remittent Fever, Dumb Ague,
Periodical or Billons Fever, etc.,
And indeed all tlie afiections which arise
from malarious, marsh, or mi-
^asmatic poisons.
Has been widely used during
the last twenty-five years, in
in the treatment of theso dis
tressing diseases, and with
such' unvarying success that
it has gained tho _ reputation
of being infallible. The
shakes, or chills once broken
by it, do not return until the disease is con
tracted again. This has made it an ac
cepted remedy, an d trusted specific, for the
Fever and Ague of the West, and the Chills
and Fever of the South.
Ayer’s Ague Cure eradicates the noxious
poison from tbe system, and leaves the pa
tient as well as beforo the attack. It thor
oughly expels the disease, so thnt no Liver
Complaints, Rheumatism, Neuralgia, Dys
entery, or Debility follow to cure, but, if
taken occasionblly by patients exposed to
malaria, it will expel the poison and pro
tect them from attack. Travelers and tem
porary residents in Fever nnd Ague locali
ties are thus enabled to defy the disease.
The General Debility which is so apt to en
sile from continued exposure to Malaria
and Miasm, has no speedier remedy.

My wife suffered with prolapsus uteri,

Guy 8. Frazey, of the Methodist Church,
advised me to try Giles’ Liniment Iodide

wonders it had performed on his wife, who
was a martyr to such troubles, and is now
well. I obtained tbe Liniment and Pills,
and my wife is cured, Cuas. R. Jo.nkh, Ed
