Lotd IddesUlgh disliked his elevation and
it is a fact that he entered tho House of
Lords with tiers in his eyes, bnt I believe
that more than onoe last session he ex
pressed bis belief that he was physically
the better for the change. He hesitated
whether bis title shonld be Kenntrley or
Iddesleigh, but ultima'ely chose the latter.
It was not till nearly six months had
elapsed that be took the trouble to have the
armorial bearing on bis carriage changed.
Lord Iddesleigh was a man of deep relig
ions convictions and of true piety. He inva
riably conducted family pray-
at Fynes. Lord Iddesleigh
was proud of the name of North-
cote, and he dearly loved Pvnei, which is a
grand old hianor bouse of red brick, beauti
fully placed on a well-wooded bill which
slopes to the river Exe. It oontains some
very fine pictures, of which the best is a
Van Dyck in the dining room, and at the
end of that apartment is the portruit of Lord
Iddesleigh which was presented to him
about ten years ago by the county of Devon.
There is a splendid library at Py :es. Lord
Iddesleigh read the lessons at Upton Pvne
church, of which his third son, the Hon.
and Rev. John Northcote, iB rector, on the
Snuday before his death. Tho ohuroh was
bnilt in 1328, and restored about ten years
