Queen Victoria's Progress Through London
to Open llie People's Palace.

with excitement this ifterooon, the occa
sion btiDg the visit of the Queen for the

Mile End. The route selected for the royal

The event was the occasion of a great dem
onstration of loyalty.
The lord mayor and municipal r Ulcers of

The announcement of the opining was
greeted with a great flourish of trumpets;

Subsequently the Queen laid the first
stone of the foundation of the Ttcbuical
schools attaohed to the People's Palace

the benediction.
Upon the cm olnsion of the ceremonies
the imperial procession started on its re-
tnrn. By command of the Queen the longest
route buck was taken, the procession mov
ing off into Burde te road and going tin nee
along Commercial road to Aldegate. This

had ri quested ih Arriving again at the city
limits, the royal carriage was met by the
Lord Mayor and offloials and escorted to
the Mansion •House, which the Queen en
tered in stale and for tho first time in her
Me. The Lord Mayor wore on this occa
sion his crimson and ermine robes, which
are only worn when the sovereign visits
him.
