SUPPLIES Perhaps you have never given much con= eideratiou to their purchase, but think for a minute of the long days the little ones must spend in using them, and how muh pleasure and satisfaction it means if everything is just like they want it. Something that does not suit is a keen dis= appointment, and now is the time that your children are forming habits and ideas that will have a great influence on their futures. Failure to equip them with the proper supplies is an actual handicap. We have taken all of these features into consideration in buying our school supplies, and the children will receive the same prices, if they come alone, as you do. Brown = Odom Drug Co. Y. jmihw—rariw———y Job Printing at the Progress Office THE LYONS BROGUES, FEBRUARY 10, 1911. About Mules. Whether or not Champ Clark drives u team of Missouri mules down Pennsylvania avenue when he becomes Speaker matters little to those Alabamians who are call ing on the “show me” state to produce a mule—for they believe there is not even one in that State —that can equal a team of them | in their own Colbert county. The Montgomery Advertiser re- ! cently referred to one animal from Colbert county that earned for the owner S9OO gross in one year. Now comes another farmer from the same vicinity who used two mules last year and reports prosperity as follows, to-wit: 8,218 pounds of lint cotton at 14 cents, $1,150 82 16,486 pounds of cotton seed at 75 cents, $122,27; 1,100 bushels of corn at 60 cents; $660; 85 loads of hay at SB, $280; 80 bushels pease at $2, S6O; 40 bushels of sweet potatoes at 75 cents, $80; 269 pounds remnant cotton seed, $lB. 45; 4,000 bundles fodder, S6O; watermelon crop, $200; total,s2,- 576.54. And the newspaper asks triumphantly if the State that will furnish next Speaker can beat the State that will furnish the next chairman of the ways and means committee. Lest this look like a scheme to create jealousy between Speaker-to-be Clark and Chair man-to-be Underwood, we note that the Advertiser makes the challenge general and it “would also ask Texas, South Carolina, Georgia and every other Southern State, if they have the heart to do so, they let the world know how much money their favorite mules made last year. Speaking of Georgia, we hope some one will speak, up and show what the Georgia mule can do and Capture the bet of a bushel of Ala bama yams which the Advertiser placks against a share cf stock in a Western gold mine that neither of these States can point to a couple of mules within their bor ders that have earned $2,576 54 in one year. Are you realy in the harness for business now? Many tolks are. Buckie the straps good, tuck in the ends and let the other fellow do the kicking Keep your own legs inside the traces and pull true all the time. Washing lainp-chimueys by im mersing them in water often makes them brittle. A safer way to clean them is to hold them for a few minutes over a steaming kettle. Then polish them briskly with a soft cloth. Never run for an office ; better to so comport yourself and so con duct your affairs that your neigh bors will set the office running af ter you. Mr. Royster believed that success awaited the Manufacturer of Fertilizers who would place quality above other considerations. This was Mr. Royster’s idea Twenty-seven years ago and this is his idea to-day; the result has been that it requires Eight Factories to supply the demand for Royster Fertilizers. F. S.
