Veteran Seeks Information.
Postmaster T. D. Murphy has re
ceived a letter asking for inform
ation which will permit an old
Confederate veteran in needy cir
cumstances to receive admission
ro the Confederate veterans’ home
in Mississippi. This information
is in the line of facts going to;
prove that he was in the Confede-j
rate army. The letter is accompan
ied by a statement from an old
soldier, Mr. I. M. Wood, giving
his command and such other tacts
as he has relative to his service in
the sth regiment Georgia infantry.
Mr. Wood’s statement is given
in the hope that it will reach the
eye of some of lus old comrades in
Company “C” sth regiment, Geor
gia infantry.
“I, J. M. Wo d, of Columbus.
Miss., was, during the war bet
ween the states, a member of Com
pany “C” sth regiment Georgia
infantry, up to the time of the
surrender by Gen. Jos. E. Johnson.
“I was mustered into the Con
federate service at Augusta, Geor
gia, and was paroled by the fede
ral authorities at Augusta, Ga,. in
April or May of 1865.
“The commissioned officers of
Company “C” were: Capt. A J.
Smith ; Ist lieutenant, Sam Poole ;
2nd lieutenant, Miles Milter; 3rd
lieutenant, Will Rigdon; orderly
sergent, Henry P. Williams.
The sth Georgia regiment was
commanded by Col. Nesbit and
Major Girardy. Maj. Girardy who
was killed in battle in Virginia.

Sam Poole were both residents of
Augusta and Col. Nesbit was sv
resident of Eatonton, Ga. Ocr
brigade commander was Gen.

Fertilizer Inspection Left To States.
Washington, Feb. 11.— (Spec
ial.) —The amendment offered by
Representative Edwards to the
agricultural appropriatisn bill pro
viding for federal- Mispecting fer
tilizers, was ruled out on a point
of order in the house to-day. Geor
gia already has a state law pro
viding tor the inspection of fer
tilizers, and the Edwards bill
sought to transfer to federal of
ficers the work now being done
by state inspectors
An appropriation of $19j,000
for the survey of swamp lands was
put on the bill having been offered
by Mr. Robinson, of Arkansas. An
amendment providing for the ex
penditure of $250,000 offered by
Mr. Edwards was withdrawn in
favor of the Robinson amend
ment.
The Senate today passed the
bill, which has already gone
through the house, appropriating
$15,000 tor the establishment of a
fish cultural station in Georgia. It
will be located on the coast
