We hear that Superintendent Cul
pepper is building a splendid road from
Center church to Vidalia. It is being
-tflayed too, and it is badly needed.
Miss Stella Scott, of Ohoopep, and
Jber charming friend Miss Jessie Farm

nesday and were guests at the home of
Mr. F. L. Bowen.

E. T. Davis and W. G. Partin, of Col
lins, came up Monday night to assist in
the reorganization of the Knights of
I’ythius. They are both loyal members

Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Webb, who re
side a few miles south of Lyons, lost
their little babe last Sunday after a
short illess. We sympathise with
them in their sad loss.
Jim Hamm and a Mr. Mulling, of
Cobbtown, were in the city Wednes

Air. \V II Johnson, of Augusta, was
in the city last week visiting hn
brother-in-law, 11. C. Willis. Mr.
Johnson is a member of the Augusta
Fire Department and he is a jovial man.
Simon Levine, the Lyons Bargain
House manager, is a chicken fancier as
well as a merchant and lie is arrang
ing to raise some fine breeds of chick
ens. Simon is an all round hustler
anyway.
The warm season is coming and the
visits of the ice man will soon he look
ed on with pleasure' Mr. Grant says
that he is not ;<>ing to let the people

We are to haw Mrs. Bulah Battle-
Martin, a famous character sketch
Artist, at the Opera House this (Thurs
day) evening. It is said that she gives
a fine entertainment and we hope that
•he will have a crowded house.
Our good friend Dan Gibbs is papa
again and it is another fine boy. The
little fellow came Tuesday night and
we are glad o say that mother and
child are doing nicely. Dan is being
congratulated on all sides by his many
friends
Now that we have the Pythian lodge
going why can’t we get the Odd
Fellows together again? This is one of
the prettiest and best brotherhoods
among them all and we would like to
see the members get together and do
something
Dr. E. P. Botnar has returned from
Atlanta atid he brought hack a hand
some Case car for his own use Henry :
Crimes, of Grimes Brothers, drove the :

about a day. l)r. Botnar has taken the
agency for the Case and it is a splen
did machine.
Mr. T. ?.I. Sineath, a brother-in-law
of Cashier R. P. Sweat, from Valdosto*
was in the city last week on a prospect
ing tour. Mr. Sineath is a business
man and lie is looking for a place to
locate. We would certainly be glad to
hav-e him decide in favor of Lyons as
■he can find no better place in the
state.
Miss Pope, head milliner a t the Em
pire. has arrived and she is now putting
h-er line in shape to be shown. Miss
Rope knows the wants of the people
around Lyons and she buys goods that
jMeases. She is certainly up in her
line and as a saleswoman she has no
i-fjua’. in the country. She will have a
regular milliner with her this season
and she says that she is going to show
she ladies some pretty styles.
Toombs Chapter (J D. C.
On Friday afternoon, March 10th. a
number of ladies met at the home of
Mrs. L. L. McGregor for the purpose of
organizing a chapter of the Daughters
of Confederacy. Mrs. Culpepper was
elected chairman of the meeting. Miss
Kinman acting aa secretary. A num
ber of ladies signed the charter roll at
this meeting, and all were highly en
thusiastic, and the necessary business
was carefully disposed of.
To add to the glory of the illustrious
Robert Toombs, in whose honor our
county was named, his name was given
to this chapter, trusting that the mem
bers will be as devoted to the work of
their organization as he was to the
cause of his loved Southland.
Applicttion for charter will be made
at once and those who wish to become
charter members will please have their
applications for membership ready by
next meeting, which will be held Tues
day, March 21st, at 3:3oo’clock, at the
home of Mrs. W, T. China.
Mrs. China, Miss Robie Clifton and
Mrs. C. F. Shewmake were appointed
to arrange a program for Memorial
Day. this program will be published
later.
Miss Jessie Kiuman. Mrs. M.N. Rog
ers and Mrs. L. L. McGregor were ap
pointed as a committee on program
for the next meeting.
We believe that the ladies cf oyr
chapter will show the same determina
tion and loyalty that existed in the
hearts and minds of those who gladly
gave all for the cause they believed to

Missionary Sermon.
Rev. J. W. Kytle will preach at the
Baptist church next Sunday morning,
on Home Missions. It is earnestly de
sired that a good congregation be pre
sent. The Woman’s Missionary So
ciety will meet Monday afternoon fol
lowing to study the same subject. This
being the beginning of the week for
self denial and prayer for Home Mis
sions, the ladies of the j Society are
asked to be present at the meeting
Monday afternoon. All other ladies
interested in the subject are invited to
attend the meeting Monday afternoon.
As the time is so close for the Mis
sionary Institutes at Dublin and Glen
wood it has been decided to observe
only one day of the week. Mrs. E. P.
Bornar will lead the meeting
