Perhaps you have never given much con=
•ideration to their purchase, but think for a minute of the long days
Ahe little ones must spend in using them, and how muh pleasure and
satisfaction it means if everything is just like they want it.
Something that does not suit is a keen dis=
appointment, and now is the time that your children are forming
fatbits and ideas that will have a great influence on their futures.
Failure to equip them with the proper supplies is an actual
Humdicap.
We have taken all of these features into consideration in buying
«ar school supplies, and the children will receive the same prices, if
they come alone, as you do.

THE LfONS PROGRESS, MARCH 24. 1911
A Little Lay Sermon.
Could anything be more appro
priate than the proposed law to re
quire the teaching of kindness,
and mercy to dumb brutes, and
other forms of humanity in the
public schools? It may be readily
admitted that the public schools
have a very definite educational
province, and that province does
not necessarily include human in
struction, but the inculcation of
the principles of kindness and of
sympathy for the brute creation
may well occupy more of the cur
riculum than it does at the pre
sent time.
The present season is said to
have been a “poor hunting sea
son,” and there are plenty of per
sons who are glad it has proven so.
It is a curious commentary on hu
man nature that men will spend
long, cold hours trudging through
the snow and rain, lie in icy cov
erts iu ambush for ducks and
geese, or iu other ways endure the
greatest hardships, all for the
sake of killing some wild thing
that is forced by hunger or thirst
to come within reach of the dead
ly gun.
A Kansas City man not long
ago boasted that he was one of a
party of 8 men who had killed 4,-
000 pigeous—a gory, cruel aver
age of 500 to the man. The time
will come when the proposed “law
of kinduess.’ will be the unwritten
law of universal conduct, when
the hand red with the blood of
wild creatures slain from mere
wanton lust for killing will not be
taken in friendship by the average
human being —Kansas City Jour
nal.
Great Pickings For a Ki ng.
The king has many privileges
which he never exercises. He en
joys an immemorial right to all
gold and silver mines, not only on
his own land, but any of his sub
jects’ lands within his dominions.
So shareholders in Rand and Aus
tralian mines would have to fore
go their dividends if King George
felt avariciously disposed. The
king is also entitled to a yearly
tribute from Ins tailor, consisting
of a pair of white doves, a pound
of cummin seed, a pair of scarlet
hose and a silver needle.
All sturgeons and whales caught
in British waters are royal per
quisites. The whale has a split
liability. Its tail belongs to
Queen Mary, while its head goes
to King George. It is generally
gaumed that the partition was de
cided upon in order thut the queen
should always be snplied with
whalebone, but, if so, the founder
of this act of beneficence commit
ted the mistake of giving the
queen the wrong half.—London
Chronicle.

Mr. Royster believed that success awaited the

above other considerations. This was Mr. Royster’s
idea Twenty-seven years ago and this is his idea
to-day; the result has been that it requires Eight
