SouthernFarmers* Rating Association.
Atlanta, May 15. The Southern
Farmers’ bating Association has
been organized and incorprated by
leading Georgia business men and
planters, with headquarters in At
lanta, and will be capitalized at
$500,000, the 6tock to be divided i
among the farmers of the South. I
The following are the incorpo
rators; R. Rushing, Atlanta ; M.
M. Stewart, president of the Sa
vannah Chemical Co., Savannah;
W. L. Edwards, cashier and direc
tor Merchant and Farmers Bank,
Claxton ; M. H. Gilson, farmer and
merchant, Claxton; C M. Rush
ing, mill owner and farmer, Clax
ton.
It is believed that this organiza
tion will put the Southern farmers
on a stronger business footing than
ever before in their history, and
will put the individual farmer on
the tame basis in the commercial
world as the merchant or banker.
To gain admitfarme tfc? farmers
into the recognized business world
.is the object of the organization of
this asS6clatiolb
The assdii&tion is being formed
oh the assumption that agriculture
in the South is a great and power
ful industry—the greatest of all
industries—while the individual
farmer does not by any means
hold the important place in the
commercial world that he should.
He i 9 shackled to a great extent
by middle dealers and small bank
ers; his sphere of activity is not
large enough or broad enough to
give him freedom he should have
ia business transactions.
It is believed that the only way
this state of affairs can be remedi
ed is to give the farmer a commer
cial rating; that is, gain him en
trance to the business world for
what he is, financially.
However, the association has al
ready clearly announced that it
intends to make no fight agaiiißt
the middle dealers, or to espouse
the cause of the farmers as a class
against another economic class.
The organization only proposes to
give, in as accurate a form as it is
possible to give it, the financial
standing of the Southern farmers.
This information will be given out
impartial, and without prejudice
or bias to any class or individual
concerned.
Farmers and business men
throughout Georgia are widely en
dorsing the plan, and indications
point to its complete success.
A Warning
To protect the people of this
county. Beware of those men who
for the sake of gaining your confi
dence, come to your towns claim
ing to be eye-sight, specialists per
manently located in business in
Savannah; such statements are
positively untrue. lam the only
oue established in Savannah who
makes these towns, which you all
know by reading the papers of Sa
vannah and also your county.
For any eye troubles or glasses,
consult me as you all know my
work to be reliable. If you wish to
know of my next visit to your
town, drop me a postal, you will
get immediate reply.
Yours for good eye-sight,
Dr. J. E. Masrow.
A Camden justice has ruled
that a husband must carry coal,
cut wood and hand the clothes
line and perform other odd jobs
around the house. This is what a
dub husband got for striking his
wife, a poo* woman with 6even
children, and frail at that. He
should have got six months at
hard labor, the blackguard.
It Startled The World
when the astonishing claims were
first made for Bucklen’s Arnica
Salve, but forty years of wonder
ful cures have proved them true,
and everywhere it is now known as
the best salve on earth for Burns,
Boils, Scalds,Sores, Cut 9, Bruises,
Sprains, Swellings, Eczema,Chap
ped hands, Fever sores and Piles.

Do dbosts Hanot Swamps?
No, never. It is foolish to fear a
fancied evil, when there are real
and deadly perils to guard against
in swamps and marshes, bayous,
and lowlands. These are malaria
germs that cause ague, chills and
fever, weakness, aches in the bones
and muscles and may induce
deadly typhoid. But Electric Bit
ters destroys and casts out these
vicicus germs from the blood.

In most financial statements the Resourses (explained in card No. !
“ 2 of this series) just equal the Liabilities, the items composing each 1
“ totalling alike. This, however, is for convenience, and does not tell 1
“ the whole story. The explanation lies in relation of Stockholders to .
“ Depositors, the latter being protected Creditors. When a bank’s
“ affairs are liquidated (wound up or closed out,) no Stockholder, a&
” such, can receive a dollar until the Depositors have been paid off in
“ full; from which it is apparent that, from the Depositors’ Stand*
“ point every sound and well managed bank has a “Surplus to Depos

” Our next card “An Invisible Liability,” will be of special inter- <
