Five and a quarter tons of ice was
sold in Lyons last Saturday and the
average now is nearly four tons a day.

Secretary Staten, of the W. A. & L.,
came down from Adrian Tuesday on a
short business trip. He says that work

The Seaboard had quite a. w reek on
the passing track in Lyons last 8 :tur
day morning Nine loaded freight cars
were derailed and the cause was that
one car was loaded with pig iron and
bad a bent axle. Hie passing track is
not in the best of condition anyway
and the rail on one side turned over.

in short order and the track put in
good shape.

Basket Plcrnc and Barbecue
Ala meeting of the County Union of
Toombs county held Saturday, June
10th, 1911, a resolution was introduced
and adopted that we give a grand rally,
with a barbecue and basket dinner, at
Lyons on Saturday before the 4th Sun
day in July, the exact date being July
22nd.
Prominent speakers of national rep
utation will be invited toaddress those
who attend and we expect to make it
a grand day for the Farmer’s Union.
We also expect to have free lemonade,
plenty of ice water and a brass band to
make music
A cordial invitation is extended to
'everybody, farmers, merchants, and
citizens, generally .and all are asked to
bring along well filled baskets to
spreud on the great table

Notice of Legislation.
To whom it may concern There
will be a bill introduced at the next
meeting of the Georgia legislature re
incorporating the Town of Ohoopee, to
increase the powers of her officials and
for other purposes. Take notice and
be governed accordingly.
The Toombs county Farmers’ Union
held a very important meeting last
Saturday and at this meeting they de
cided to have a grand picnic and bar
becue in Lyons on Saturday before the
4th Sunday in July. This will be the
22nd day and they will have speakers
here of nationol renown. Everybody
will be asked to help in the matter ep
that it will be made one of the great
est entertainments ever held in our
little city. The Farmers’ Union of
Toombs county believe in Lyons and
we Lyons people must give them a
helping hand in this entertainment.
Business has not been a> good in Ly
ons for the last week or so as is usual,
but there is a good excuse and one that
the merchants accept readily Our city
is mostly a trading point for the farm
ers and right at this time these farm
ers are working hard, have no time to
come to the city and they are doing
without rather than neglect the farm.
They have bright prospects before them
a bumper crop as it is called, and this
means something for Lyons. We can
afford to have a little dull season when
we see such bright prospects ahead

were in session nearly all day Monday
going over and considering bids for
these improvements. The two leading
bidders were so close together that the
matter was left open for a day or so
until some furthur information could
be secured. One little item to be re 1-

the school and when the work is finish

country school building in south
