(live a Helping Hand.
“A helping hand we all may give,
If but a pleasant word to say,
And something find each day we live,
To help another on the way.”
That’B one of the best things a
man can do. It is one of the things
that doesn’t cost a cent and yet is
one of the most priceless gems of
earth. O’Reilly has said many
things about the brine and pain of
life, but he put th 6 balm there
when he said let something good
be said. If I had to take one lit
tle thing and work it for my soul’s
salvation 1 would take the speak
ing of a good word. Many a time
we struggle on alone, and the
world never knows how much we
need a little encouragement to
help us over the shadows .
Seems as if there could be a lit
tle pity in the hearts of men that
would always be stirring there for
men who are friends and brothers
on the highway of life, but alas it
is too often the case they pass by
on the other side. And strange
how it is the last and lowliest will
help a fellow along after others
have gone by a different way. But
the test of years is the test to try
one by and I would scorn a man,
who would pose as a friend for
years and at last turn enemy,
whiie the fellow who has always
been doubtful will still hold the
same old amount of regard. Rhea
Hayne.
Life’s (Jarden
We are very particu ar about
the kind of seeds we pm in our
gardens, but not all tlie plants
that start are from our sowing.
The wind carried some seed from
a far-off field where weeds grew
rank all summer. These weeds, al
though you never saw them, and
were hot to blame for them grow
ing in your garden, will make
trouble for you if permitted to
grow and multiply.
It is the same way with the
weeds of character, which we will
name faults. Sometimes a person
will think that his failings or
faults do not matter to other peo
ple, but only to themselves, which
is a great mistake. The breezes
which we call influence are con
tinually wafting seed from on<
heart to another, and one garden
given up to weeds may make
trouble for a great many people
beside tha owner.

\l OVERDRAFTS, No. 1. \
An Overdraft is an amount due to the bank by a depositor, and ”
| U ccmes about when the bank pays the depositor’s check for a larger ”
” amount than the depositor has to his credit, subject to check, in the <>
<► bank. 1
4 ►
For example, let us say that A deposits $500.00 in bank, and ”
it then, through an error at some point (as in subtracting the amount ”
of some check from Ho previous balance, on stub of check book,) <>
| ♦ draws checks on the bank amounting to $510.00. If he is in good ”
♦ credit at the bank, and is known to be careful and disposed to do ”
I } the right thing, it is most likely that his checks will all be paid, in
! 4 eluding the last one presented. U
U As Overdrafts are regarded with much disfavor in all well man- ”
” *■ aged banks, it is evident that no good bank will tolerate the deposi- »
” tor who willfully draws checks for more than he deposits. Such a U
o one annoys both the bank and those who handle his dishonored ”
|o checks, and to some extent brings into disfavor what should be a
" great privilege to every reputable citizen —to have a checking Ac- !!
<► count with some good bank. ”
