Be Kind to The Folk at Home.
While people are devoting so
much time and attention to crops
and the developement of the things
of life that bring riches that will
vanish with the coming of the
night when “thy soul shall be re
quired of thee,” some considera
tion should be given to the folk at
home. While the mules are care
fully fed and sheltered, while the
hogs grunt amid plen f y, while the
cattle are sleek and fat, don’t for
get that under the home roof the
treasures —the real treasures —of
life are found. Don’t let them go
hungering for the kind words,dmit
forget to give them the cheering
smile.
Oh, the lives that are wasted and
the efforts that are so vainly put
forth in endeavor to accomplish
that which never can be done.
There are toiling on the farms who
languish through the years and
watch with longing hearts for the
coming of the time when the bles
sing that should come “because
Thou hast given me a Southland'’
and yet never realize the longing
until the dawning of the time when
the moon shall get eternal blue
and the morning sun shall bright
en the land where the seasons are
forever propituous and crops al
ways abundant.
Don’t let your wife, your son,
your daughter, your mother,sister
or brother, as the case may be, go
longing for the food that nourish
es the soul. Give any farm home
the man who speaks the gentle
word, who is Joving the people be
neath his roof and you will find
there a little heaven where life’s
blessings are always found and
the radiating influence will per
meate the community at large and
grow on and on until it might,
peiadventure, have a hold on the
whole section.
It’s hard to think of the other
side, where a man lives for self,
grinds out the precious life blood
of his own. But some day he will
awakento the awful penalty of
the course followed and find the
pathway, dark, and lonesome,
secluded,and alone he must trudge
the road that leads to the abyss.
Oh, the horror of it, and yet un
questionably the justness (of it.
There is only one solace for the
man of that kind and it lies in
repentance It’s a blessed boon
to mankind, but there are some
who will not change until it is too
late.
Os all creation’s kindred the
man on tVh farm owes a duty to
mankind ai d especially to his
own people, and that is to be kind.
The stock, cattle, grass, birds,
trees, the rippling waters all teach
gentle, loving kindness and the
man who fails to listen and learn
will have to stand trial and re
ceive judgement before the high
est tribunal that ever was fashion
ed or formed for the advancement
of all that is good and holy in
nature—Seorgia-Carolina Agri
culturist.
Recognized by Old Peter.
A certain politician died and at
the judgement bar he was con
fronted by old Peter. Peter spoke,
“So this is the illustrious politi
cian of Georgia. Well sir, I have a
few words to say to you. Yon have
played a wonderful game in Geor
gia, you have acted as a spoilt
child. You asked for an office and
they gave you that, you*decided
that you didnt like it and asked for
another and they gave you an
other. Then you decided you did
not want the last one so soon, and
as you could do as you plensnd you
kept both. You drew two salaries
when you shouldn’t have drawn
but one. You sponged on the peo
ple too much. Your game was a
little too bad. Down to the lowest
depths of Hades you go !” And old
Peter smiled over the conscious
ness of having performed a com
mendable deed.—Exchange.

Attack Like Tigers.
In fighting to keep the blood
pure the white corpuscles attack

germs multiply so fast the little

I THE BANKING HOUSE.
T
II Most every well established bank owns its Banking House, just “
“ as nearly every well-to-do citizen of family owns his home. A man <■
■ > of means can properly enjoy for himself and family such comforts as
tt are supplied by the substantial, roomy and well-appointed residence. “
“ Likewise, a bank of some magnitude, being permanently in business,
• « seeks not only to house its affairs becomingly, but to have for both it
■ it its officers and employees, and its customers and the public generally, “
“ such reasonable quarters and oonvencies as the day permits. < ■
•> It is important that a bank invest only a reasonable portion of <’
!! its Capital Stock or Resources in a Banking House, and circumstan- “
“ ces vary greatly. No rule con be laid down. Prudence suggests that
<« allowance be made for loss by fire, and that the fourth value of im
o provements, that cannot be insured, be charged off (gradually if “
“ need be.)
-> Five of the largest banks m New York city, according to their
recently published reports, have an aggregate of $18,279,899,10 in- “
“ vested in their Banking Houses, including Furniture and Fixtures in ;;
• > two'cases. The National City Bank and the Hanover National Bank <•
1“ each have more than $5,000,000,00 so invested. City banks are obli- “
“ ged to have the best locations, and such sites now-a-davs are quite ;;
° generally improved with the buildings of the sky-scraper type. <■
