Third Bank is Assured.
The stock subscriber* of the new
bank being organized for Lyons met as
per the announcement in the last is
sue of the Progress, on Monday in the
Opera House and we are told that
nearly every stojk subscriber was pres
ent or represented. Some twenty odd
met: were in the meeting and it was
harmonious from beginning to end.
Only those who were stock subscribers
were present and they decided that
the time wasnot quiteripe to give out
information. We learned, however,
that a temporary Boardof Directors
was elected,that a building committee
was named and thatthis committee
was to get together and have a report
ready for npxt Saturday. Next week
they say, they will be ready to announce
the officers and directors, and the pro
moters now say they want to get ready
for business by the first of December,
if possible.
The organization of this new bank
ing institution shows that the people
have great confidence in the future of
the city. That Lyons will grow is a con
clusion that cannot he disputed and
the more financial institutions we get
in the county the better off the people
will be. The new bank also means a
handsome new brick edifice and we
are told that it will be one of the pret
tiest in South Georgia. Our good wishes
are with the new enterprise. We
are for Lyons first, last and all the
time, glad to see any enterprise started
and we hope the promoters of this one
are not making a mistake. In fact we
know they are not making a mistake,
because the county is growing so fast
new financial institutions are bound
to come to meet the demands
The Haag Show.
There will be a treat seldom seen in
store for the amusement going public
when the ‘'Mighty Haag Show”
exhibits at Vidalia,Tuesday, Oct. 31st.
The program this year has been so
arranged as to please everybody, being
one of the greatest list of features ever
offerek by an amusement purveyor.
E. Haag, proprietor of the Mighty
Haag Shows, was successful in secur
ing the celebrated avaitor. Mons. Di’
Pauhlatn as one of the features, also
securing one of the rarest animals
known to animaldom, “The Hippota
gus Equinius” which today is nearly
extinct; when added to his large zoo
logical collection will make it second
to none.
These two features are alone worth
the price of admission and with other
amusement enterprises would he the
crowning feature whilewith the Mighty
Haog it is only one of the many fea
tures offered by the big Southern Cir
cus.
The seal of approval has been placed
upon the Mighty Haag Shows by the
amusement going public of the entire
South.
It has been almost impossible for
several weeks to get laundry work
done at all in Lyons and we are of the
opinion that Lyons and Vidalia should
got together and establish a first class
steam laundry some where about half
way between the two cities, would
he a payingjuivestment and itjwould be
close enough to either city to get all
the natronage. We would like to hear
from our Vidalia friends on this prop
osition .
We heard a former Lyons merchant
| say the other day that he was thinking
of opening up a neat family cash gro
cery store. He said he would have the
best of every thing and he would not
add so such for profit. He is a good
man, too, and we wduld be glad to see
him open up.
Fine pork is now finding its way to
the market and the farmers are get
ting ten cents a pound. This is cer
tainly better than raising ten cent cot
ton and we are hoping that the farm
ers of the county will pay more at
tention to raising hogs in che future.
Charley Edwards is always on his
job as a representative of the people
in the First District. We voted against
him last year but we wish we could be
in the First next year to help keep him
where he is. Geort i has net a better
or more active man :ti Congress.
