The promiscuous firing of pistols and

A good advertisement of the Amusu
Theater, at Vidalia was sent down to
4he Progress this week, but we could
wot get it in on account of the great

in the next issue and in the meantime
we want to say that the Amusu is a

the “shadow pictures” are grand.
Col. C. W. Sparks, of Vidalia, and a
prominent member of the Toombs

we had heard often that Col.
Sparks would not get in the race. We
want to say right here that he is one
of the county’s very best men. He is
honorable, upright and a man that we
nil can depend on to do the right thing.
9le is progressive, too, and if the peo

r-Uieir interests will be looked after in
Khe proper way.
Miss Rosa Powers Is Dead.
The message that Miss Rosa Powers
was dead flashed all over the city last
Monday afternoon and it caused a wave
of sadness to fall on every body. Peo
ple seemed to speak it in whispers when
it was mentioned.
Deceased was the only daughter of
Dr. and Mrs. D J, Powers and she
was loved by all who knew her. She
was highly accomplished, being a grad
uate in music both vocal and instru
mental.
She was taken ill in December and
has been confined to her bed for over
two months. She was a patient suffer
er, however, and never once did she
lose her lovable disposition. Her death
came when it was thought that she
was better, and it stole upon her peace
fully and quiet. She did not seem to
suffer at all during the last hour, but
she had suffered her portion and we
are satisfied that she is now singing
with the angels on high.
The remains were carried to Rome,
Ga., the old home of her father, where
they were laid to rest on Wednesday
afternoon, and on this sad trip they
were accompanied by Dr. and Mrs.
Powers. Dr. T. A. Scarboro and Mr.
D. M. Dunwoody accompanied them
part of the way.
The Progress sympathizes with the
bereaved parents in their sad loss. It
means all to these old people, but they
are Christians and they will now look
to the time when they will meet again
in that realm where suffering and part
ing is never known. Peace to the ash
es of this good young lady.
