Is S L
FOR A COTTON MILL.
Just a little plain talk with the People
of Lee County. Lets figure togethera lit
tle, .
You can take it whenever you will and
the local nrices of cotton in a :own where
the product is uséd at home by the cotten
is always from a half to a cent higher than
the prices in towns without a mill.
Now this is no idle ‘statement but can
be proven. ; i
Lee County makes about 14oco bales
of cotton; suppose it shéuld make a dif
ference of a half a cent or §2 50 a bale,does
not l.ee County each year lose $35,000 on
her cotton crop by not* having mill- to
take it up at howie:” Suppose this $35,-
000 had ben placed at interest for the last
ten years would itnot amount tv over a
half million dollars, Suppose this half
shilion dollars was placed in Lee County
investments would not the taxuation of
this fund alope half way run the county.
Suppese on the oiher featuresof the pro
‘position that it took two hundred hands
to make up this crop. Would, not the
usual rule prevail of threeto one worker
making the population of the county at
least 600 more than that white. Would
not this make a larger market for
all the stuff that we could raise. This .is
a question to consider. Allis not stated
but a county will dry up that dont go for
ward. ,
If Lee County expeets to make smongy
out of her cotton she has got to malbe her
own cloth and keep freights and profits of
manufacturs athome. If eveéry farmer in
Lee County would take stock in a mill,
(of $2,50 for each bale that he raises) it
would #tot hurt him but would be “the
wnaking of his county. It would not be
lost but would bea profitable investment.
It would pay for its self inincreased prices
the firts year and he wonld still have the
stock, $2,50 a bale would build a small
mill, Stock could be issued in baby shates
of $lO as much or as little as a man want
ed. We need to make ou~ own cotton in
stead of shipping it to England.

' Redbone District.
No section of the county has improved
more within the last few years than Red
boné, Where stood dilapidated houses and
‘thrown away farms. Now stands beauti
fnl residences, and well cultivated farms.
The farmers in this section are prosperous
and are a happy contented set of people.
The farm lands in this district have in
creased in value, and it will ounly be a
short time before Redbone will be one of
the leading districts of the county.
