To the People of the Cherokee Circuit
Having been appointed to the office of
Solicitor General of this Circuit, to fill,
temporarily, the vacancy caused by the
death of CoL Longstreet, I accepted the
office and entered upon the discharge of
its duties, with the intention of being a
candidate before you, at the election which
the law requires shall be held on the first
Monday in January next In determining
on this course, I did not anticipate any or
ganized party action, not being able to see
the necessity for any such, because there
is no political issue involved in this elec
tion, and I hoped, therefore to be allowed
to run the race quietly, and without the
necessity of appearing before you, either
through the press or otherwise, except in
the discharge of my official duties; recent
developments, however, have convinced
me that it is proper I should make this
public announcement, that in any event,
I am a candidate.
To those who do not know me, and may
desire to know my political sentiments, I
have only to say, I have never belonged
to any other than the Democratic party,
though I claim no particular merit on that
account.
If the people, whose province it is to
choose their own officers, shall honor me
with their confidence, and continue me in
the office, I shall be gratified, if they pre
fer another, it is their privilege, and I shall
cheerfully submit, to their decision.
J. A. R. HANKS.

55gT The Great English Remedy, Sir
James Clarke’s Celebrated Female Pills, pre
pared from a prescription of Sir J Clarke, M.
D. t Physician Extraordinary to the Queen.—
This invaluable medicine is unfailing in the
cure ot all those painful and dangerous disea
ses to which the female constitution is subject.
It moderates all excess and removes all ob
structions, and a speedy cure may be relied on.
To married ladies it is peculiarly suited. It
will, in a short time, bring on the monthly pe
riod with regularity. Each bottle, price one
dollar, bears the Government Stamp of Great
Britain, to prevent counterfeits.
These Pills should not be taken by females
during the first three months of pregnancy, as
they are sure to bring on miscarriage, but at
auv other time they are safe.
In all cases of Nervous and spinal affections,
pain in the back and limbs, fatigue on slight
exertion, palpitation of the heart, hysterics,
and whites, these pills will effect a cure when
all other means have failed, and although a
powerful remedy, do not contain iron, calomel,
antimony, or anything hurtful to the constitu
tion.
Full directions accompany each package.

a Card from Dr. James M. Jar-
rett, of the New York Lung Infirmary.—My
connection, for the past eight years, with the
above Institution, as Chief Physician, and a
twelve years’ course of steady devotion to the
cure of Pulmanory Consumption and its kind
red diseases, together with my unrivalled op
portunities and advantages of pathological re
search-aided not a little by a perfect system
of Medical Inhalation—has enabled me to arrive
at a decisive.»direct and successful course of I
treatment for the positive and radical cure of all
diseases of the Throat, Lungs and Air-Passa
ges. By Inhalation.the vapor and curative pro
perties of medicines are directly addressed to
the diseased organs and the integument. I do
not advise the use of Medical Inhalation of any
kind, to the exclusion of general treatment; and
although I consider it a useful adjuvant in the
proper management )f those fearful and often
fatal diseases, yet I deem it necessary that each
patient should have the benefit of both general
and local treatment. The success of my treat
ment in the above diseases, and the high char
acter of the Institution over which I hare so
long had the honor to preside are too well known
to need any eulogy or comment from me. At
the solicitation of many private and profession
al friends, through whose philanthropic aid the
above charity has been long and liberally sup
ported, and after due consideration, I have con
cluded to make such arrangements as will bring
the benefits of my experience and treatment
within the reach of all, and not confine myself,
as heretofore, to those only who entered the
Infirmary, or who were able to visit me at my
office. Hoping, therefore, that the arrange
ment will give entire satisfaction, both to my
professional brethren and the public, I would
respectfully announce, in conclusion, that I
can now hs consulted personally or by Utter, on
diseases as above, and that the medicines, the
same as used in the Institution, prepared to

I S ONE OF THE BEST PURGATIVE AND
LIVER MEDICINES now before the pub
lic, that acta as a Cathartic, easier, milder, aad
more effectually than any other medicine
known. It is not only a Cathartic, but a Liter
remedy, acting first on the Liver to eject its
morbid matter, then on the stomach ana bow ■
els to carry off that matter, thus accomplishing
two pureoee* effectually, without any of tho
painful feelings experienced in the operations
of most Catlarties. It strengthen* tbe system
at the same time that it purges it, and when
taken daily in moderate doses, will strengthen
and build it up with an astral rapidity.
