In our journey through life, may the — w
three sisters, religion, science and litera
ture, be our companions, and not like we,
a “Sister band,” separated at its begin
ning. In after years, how pleasant will it
be to wander back o’er the past, and gath
er from the B9nds of time, bright jewels to
deck memory's crown, Then can we make
the beautiful and expressive words of Mon.
roe our own—
“Let fate do her work, there are relics ofjoy,
bright dreams of the past, which she cannot
destroy;
Which come in the night-time of sorrow and
care,
And bring back the features, which joy used to
wear.”
And let us “remember that in life, as there
are no roses without their thorns, so there
is no sky without its stars.
Life has been represented as a beautiful
night, in which not one star goes down,
but another rises in its stead ; but this is
only the bright side, the poetry of it.—
Life is real. For a short time only, will
we, like our predecessors, “repose upon
the laurels, and lest by the way-side,”—
soon must we “buckle on our armour and
enter the realities of a life, which will try
the deepest energies of our being.”
May our aim be, to reach that high and
elevated position, a true, noble hearted
woman ! Oh ! what a jewel she is, “her
price is far above rubies.” It is not a few
years spent at school, with a few superfi
cial accomplishments, which constitute a
woman ? 11 is what the world calls a
“Lady,” hut only a counterfeit “woman.”
If such he oar object, and if our determi
nation be executed, our life will be one of
usefulness. When long years have past,
and change has wrought many a ruin,
though separated far, yet shall friendship
unite us, and if we arc faithful, we shall
meet never more to part. AVith the eye
of Faith can we look forth into the uncer
tain future, when one by one of our little
band may again be united; and perhaps
we may be permitted to sit at the feet of
our earthly instructors, and with them
our, unsatisfied minds may forever drink
at the unquenchable founts of celestial
wisdom.
The choicest and richest of Heaven's
blessing rest upon you, the dear compan
ions of my bust school-days, and may we
all meet around our Father's throne. T
now bid you each, and all, a sad, a tearful
'farewell!

A Compliment,
The Memphis Acntanche of the 5th

lion. John Hell of Tennessee.
“A Southern man, represenlinga South
ern constituency, we do not recollect a
single instance, upon a question of South
ern policy, in which Air. Bell has not act-
<cd and voted against the majority of his
colleagues, and with their Northern ene
mies. Claiming to be a national man, he
has almost uniformly, for the last five
years, acted and voted against the only
national, and with the great sectional par
ty of the country; and professing to love
the Constitution, the Soid.li, and the U-
nion, he has never failed to oppose those
great measures which had for their object
to carry out the evident intent of the first;
to protect and defend the second; and
perpetuate and strengthen the third. And
yet, this is the man whom we hear pro
nounced a great and good statesman; a
pure-minded and patriotic politician, a
bold, fearless, and faithful representative;
and whom, wc are told, is deserving of
the highest honor, and worthy to fill the

Is only a fair average of the actual profit from
, the use of each one ol these Machines, and, fur
confirmation of this truth, we refer to any one
of the thousands of persons who use them.—
They are adapted to every sort of work, fine or
coarse, upon silk, cotton, linen and woolen
fabrics, also light and heavy leather. They
never fail to give entire satisfaction.
To meet the growing demand for a smaller
and more elegant machine for private house
hold purposes, we have just produced, and are
ready to receive orders for
Singer’s New Family Sewing Machine,
1 Which is the most compact and beautiful Sew
ing Machine ever constructed. It is ornamen-

j it are delighted with it. Tt makes the imjirov-

greater variety of work m better style than
any other Sewing Machine ever ottered for

It is not subject to the objection of using
twice too much thread, and making a raveling
