spirit of hopefulness in the In me.
ill the olliee, oil the s', r el. We
••an do no greater service to hu
manity than to live and work al
ways with a great hope, which, in
the very nature of things will grow
more and more into a great cer
tainty.
We see some fa mi! : os w here each
has a part to perform, where the
•laughters relieve the mother of
many household duties, and the
divison ot work makes it ,-usier:
while in others the mother is a
sla\ ■} and the daughters act as if
they are hoarders. Why this dif
ference? "'ho is to blame?
Children who are taught to work
and heart heir share of the burdens
love and respect their parents far
more than others, for it is a fact
that p*ople have very little io
speej. for a skive, though he or she
he a parent.
My son, follow not in tin- foot
steps of the loafer, and make no
example of him who is horn t ired,
for verily 1 say unto you. their
business is overstocked: the seats
V
on the corners are ali taken and
whittling places are all occupied.
It is better to saw wood at two
hits a cord ihaijto whittle inn

ment. My son while thou hast
left in thy skull tie- sen.- f a jay
bird, break away from the cigar
ette habit, lor 10, thy breath
stinketh like a glue factory and
the whole appearance is less in
telligent t kan a store dummy; yea.
-thou art a clipper with the rim

Young man, there is one thing
you cannot do. You cannot make
-a success in'life unless von w ork.
Older men that you have tried it
and failed. You cannot loaf
around the street corner, smoke,
tell stooies, and sponge on some
one else, wit bout making a faipire
in life. You must learn a tradf
or get into some honest business.
If you don’t you w ill become a
chronic loafer and there is no
place in the world for loafers.
The ripe fruit, is at the top of the
tree and you must climb i" you
get it, or some smart man will
pluck it from you. Do something
no matter how small or how low
the wages, it will he a starter.
Help yourself and otheis will help
you. There is no royal road to
success: will, grit and endurance
are the qualities which lead to it.
The easiest thing in the world
is to find fault in others, hut how
difficult to see our own. Let us
he charitable along this line, and
do as a great artist did, who pain
ted a picture of his King, upon
w hose brow was a sear, painting it
with hi- hand covering the scar.
Let our mantle of charity be suf
ficient for others, as well as our
selves. A gentle word or tone,
even a friendly glance may touch 1
