contest. We have some good mater
ial, only the proper spirit and enthu
siasm needed. A good spirit will go
a long way. When boys and girls go
away to school they know what
school spirit means. It takes other
things besides regular dailj; lessons
schedule to put a good spirit into
the school. Hard work in school is
all right but thety are many ways to
make it pleasant and not to be
thought of as a drudgery. There are
many principles of life that can be
taught without books , but it takes
teachers with visions to know them
and be able to instill them in others.
Play Brew ton. Pair ker Friday
The basket ball team of boys has
been doing some hard practice this
week for the game with Brewton-
Parker Institute Friday afternoon at
Mt. Vernon. We have won two
games over, Brewton-Parker this
season, but they won recently over
Metter who have defeated us twice.
Consequently we are expecting a
close game. Show your school spirit
by goingy over to Brewton-Parker
Friday afternoon and back up the
home team.
The girls have been doing some
good practice this week too. This is
the first season a girl’s team has
been organized since 1917-1918. The
game is almost new to them, hut
some good players are being develop
ed. We hope to get several games
before the season is over.
Scout News
The Girl Scouts are preparing a
program for their regular monthly
meeting at the Club House Saturday
night. All the Scout songs will be
sung at this time with regular camp
“pep” for the girls are practicing
every afternoon under the direction
of an adult. The ladies composing
the Local Council will he present at
this meeting and will have an oppor
tunity to know something of what
the organization stands for.
Much interest has been aroused
among the Girl Scouts Concerning a
field day contest between the two
patrols. Plans are being made by the
entrants for this occasion and def
inite arrangements will be announc
ed later. The occasion bids fair to
be one of much interest to the girls
and will lend much to the enthusiasm
of the troop as a w.ioie.
Just recently the science depart
ment has received for the classes in
human Biology an excellent manikin,
rfhis apparatus wil, make more inter
esting the study of the human body.
The cuts are large and very definite.
The Sixth, Seventh, and Minth
grades will have the benefit of this
excellent material in their sciences
classes.
Friday night the Senior Boy Scouts
had a regular meeting at the Club
House. Only a small number of the
members of the troop was present.
A very interesting meeting was held
and many plans were made for the
work of the year. A very import
ant meeting will be held next Friday
evening at eight o’clock. Every
Scout who intends to continue with
the troop must be ,/resent or render
a good reason for absence or else he
will he left out in the re-organiation.
Senior Scout welcome Frank Ander
son as a prospective member. He
will probably stand the Tenderfoot
test at the next meeting.
The Junior Scouts had a i., t meet
ing Saturday night at the Club House.
first all gathered around one
la table and studied with the
Scout master the Scout laws and their
meanings. Very interesting illustra
tion of these laws were given by the
boys. Some snappy games were
played, juding the noise made, they
surely were enjoyed. As the last pan
of the program, all assembled in r.
curie and sang oh’ southern songs
with one or two scouts songs put in.
The hoys sang well. This will be an
important feature of each program.
James Napier was added to the
troop hv Juniors.
Parent-Teacher Meeting
One of the most interesting meet
ings of the Parent-Teacher associa
>n this school year was held at the
jchool Auditorium Friday afternoon.
The topic of dicussion was co-opera
tion. A very practical talk was made
by Rev. B. R. Anderson on “Practical
Methods of Co-operation.” Miss
Ollin Bland rend'-red a beautiful
piano solo. Mrs. Frice gave an ex
cellent paper on ‘How Parents Hin
der the Work of Pupils.” Mrs.
Price handled this subject with ease
and could speak both from the stand
point of parent and teacher having
had experience as both. Following
this paper a general discussion was
held and many suggestions of co- <
operation made. At the close of the*
program delicious refreshments were
served and a pleasant social half
hour was enjoyed.
The Sixth grade enjoyed a half hoi- :
iday Friday. This grade has a large
number of its members on the j
“Knight Baneret” badge of the Heal t h ;
Crusaders. This is the grade that
every memeber should strive for.
