COURT HOUSE I IXTURES
ARRIVE AT LYONS
Furniture and fixtures for the
Toombs county courthouse have ar
rived at Lyons a.id will be installed
this week, which will complete the
new courthouse for Toombs county.
Vhe building has been in use for
some months, but the court rooms
were filled with temporary seats.
The furniture is in keeping with the
magnificient building.
FIRE IN DR. RA"TRAY’S
HOME ON WEDNESDAY.
The fire department was called out
Wednesday' at •noon by a small fire
in the home of Dr. M. J. Rattray.
Sparks from a defective flue result
ed in a blaze in a partition, which
was put out with small damage to
the building.
G'PL SCOUTS RAISE
NICE SUM TAG DAY.
The local troop of Girl Scouts
were greatly pleased with the result
of their Tag Day last Saturday, the
sum of $lO5 being realized. The girls
were everywhere on the streets du
ring the day, and visitors and home
folks were tagged alike.
The fund will be used by the Scouts
in fitting up their room in the Scout
Hut.
LOCAL BASKET BALL
TEAMS WIN AND LOSE
The local basket ball players won
and lost last week, Brewton-Parker
defeating the boy» team Friday af
ternoon by' the score of 20 to 11.
Saturday afternoon the girls’ team
. played Claxton and won easily by a
score of 28 to 3.

of their daughter. Marie. to Mr.
Thomas Woodham Timmerman of
Vidalia, the marriage to be solemn
ized in February.
MRS. JONES ENTERTAINS.
Mrs. W. A. Jones entertained in
formally at bridge Tuesday. There
were only two tables. Following the
game, ,dainty refreshments were
served.
20TH CENTURY CLUB
HAS BUSINESS MEETING.
Mrs. W. A. Jones, Mrs. VV. J.
DeLoach and Mrs. J. C. Austin were
joint hostesses at the first business
meeting of the 20th Century Club,
held last Thursday afternoon at the
home of Mrs. Jones. Following the
adoption of the -eport of the com
mittee on Constitution and By-Laws,
the program committee reported that
for the spring months the programs
would be along the , lines of the
Duties' of Citizenship, and that it
would be next fail before the Year
Books could be issued.
The following program was render
ed at the meeting.

course was served by the hostesses.
THIGPEN-THOMPSON.
Wednesday, January 12th, at Rock
ledge, Miss Neva Lillian Williford and
Mr. Marvin Thigpen, both of Rock
ledge, were united in marriage.
The marriage was solemnized at
tlie home of the bride’s parents, at
Rockledge.
The ceremony was performed by
Rev. Mr. Salter of Minter, only a
few close friends being present.
Mrs. Thigpen is the eldest daugh
ter of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Willi
ford, and is well known and liked
in the community where she lives.
She is a young lady of unusual charm
and of lovely character. She has
taguht in the school of her home town
and has scores of friends who learn
with interest of her marriage.
Mr. Thigpen is one of Laurens
county’s most prominent young men,
and is engaged in the business of
farming.
Immediately after the ceremony,
they left for the home of the groom's
father, wher they will make their
home for the present.

An effort is being made to have
an union prayer service once, each
month, rotating between the differ
ent churches. The first union serv
ice will he held at the Methodist
church next Wednesday evening and

after having been discharged from
the Vidalia Hospital as a convales
cent. Mr. Oliver left Tuesday for
Uvalda, where he goes to hold a
meeting at the Baptist church.
