Dr. H. F. J. Arundel, in charge of
• the tick eradication in Toombs and
Montgomery counties, states that the
■ cattle owners are co-operating splen
didly in the work of dipping and that
there is little doubt but-that the
quarantine can he lifted and these
counties be declared tick free by the
Ist of July.

, tour of inspection of the tick eradi
cation Work in this section, accom
panying Dr. J. E. jackson, of Wash
ington. D. C., assistant chief of tick
eradication work in the United States,
Dr. Win. M. McKeler, of Atlanta.

and Dr. S. J. Horne, of Dublin, ini
charge of tlie Twelfth district, on a
trip which carried them into all the
counties in this section.

Mr. Tom Smith, who recently had
his building on north Railroad Ave.
overhauled, has opened an up-to-date
fruit and confectionery store which
is very creditable to the city. Much
of the candy will !>e made by Mr.
Smith himself.
Mrs. Bessie Smith was the victim
of a painful accident on Wednesday,
tripping over a- tricycle in front of
Estroflf’s store. She was removed to
her home and given medical atten
tion, when it was found that three
of her ribs were broken.

In addition to being a live mer
cant, D. C. Harris is considerable of
a sprinter. Saturday he detected a
negro walking out of the store with
a pair of trousers under his coat, for
which he had neglected to pay Mr.
Harris, so the merchant gave chase
and soon captured the thief, who was
turned over to the officers. In the
city court Wednesday the negro en
tered a plea of guilty and was fined
SSO and costs.

AND THOMPSON APRIL IS.
Alamo. Ga.. April 4. —John Buch
anon and J. C. Thompson, who last
week were indicted for the murder
of Robert Wilcox of Lumber City,
will not go on trial in the Wheeler
County Superior Court until Monday, '
April 18th, when the criminal dock
et will be taken up.
The prisoners have been removed
from the Laurens county jail at Dub
lin to the Wheeler county jail here
to await trial. Shortly after the al
leged crime was committed, Buchanon
and Thompson were taken to Dublin
and Sandersville and then back to
Dublin for safe keeping.
