Catarrhal Deafness Cannot Be Cured
by local applications, as they cannot reach
the diseased portion of the ear. There is
only one way to cure catarrhal deafness,
and that Is by a constitutional remedy.

Bong "Plugger” Drains Cellar.
They are telling a good story along
Broadway these days about an earnest
young “song plugger” who wanted a
song placed In several theatrical acts.
Learning that the actors he was try
ing to persuade to sing his number
liked something a little stronger than
half of one per cent he got several
bottles of a liquor called Bourbon and
sent around n quart to each actor,
along with orchestrations of the song.
The hint was a good one, and the
song went into the acts. On learning
that the actors were singing his song,
this thoughtful young man, so the story
goes, sent around a case of that same
stuff to the homes of each of the ac
tors. It is said that nearly every actor
in the country now wants to sing the
song, and the boss of the young man
is trying to think of some appropriate
medal to be struck In the honor of his
live wire.—New York Suu.
DUSKY WORKER OF MIRACLES
Negro Saint, Forbidden to Exercise
Power, Put White Bishop in
Something of a Hole.
Long ago when Peru was a jewel In
the Spanish crown, there lived in that
country a negro of such remarkable
sanctity that his miracles rivaled those
of the best white saints of his time.
Fearing for the supremacy of his race,
the Spanish bishop took the precau
tion of forbidding this dark-6kinned
saint to give any further exhibitions
I of his power, an order which was ac
cepted with the humility that marks
the real saint of every age, land or
color. Now, tlie Spaniards built a
cathedral in Lima, and during the
building of it a workmen fell from the
topmost scaffolding before the horri
fied eyes of the holy negro. It was
a fearful dilemma. A second’s delay
and the man would be dashed to
pieces. “Stop I” he shouted ; and leav
ing the workman hanging In midair
he sought out the bishop and ex
plained the situation. If the bishop
did not want a poor son of Ham to
perform miracles, would he prefer to
come and, do the lob himself? The
bishop wisely chose to allow his Mack
sheep to return to the cathedral and
“carry on”; the workman fell up
again gently to his scaffolding, and
the work of building went happily on.
