STRICKLAND MOTOR
CO. BURGLARIZED
Burglars entered the Strickland
Motor Co. building Monday night and
appropriated about SIOO worth of tire*
and accessories. Entrance was af
fected by removing a pane of glass
in a rear window.
The burglars evidently needed some
tires for their car and had well-de
fined ideas as to the tires they want
ed. as cheap tires v/cre passed up, as
well as large size tires. Several tires
were unwrapped and when the burg
lars found they were not the quali
ty or size needed, they were thrown
aside.

M. D. &S. TRAIN .
JILLS WOMAN
MRS. LEE BAR I ON, OF SHEW'
MAKE, CAUGHT ON TRESTLE
OVER TURKEY CREEK MON
DAY—BODY MANGLED.
■ • < r
Dublin, May 16. —Mrs. Lee Barton
of Shewmake, who lives about ten
miles 'from Dublin, was instantly kill
ed about 5:30 this afternoon when
she was caught on a trestle of the
M. D. & S. radroad over Turkey
creek, about seven inues from here.
She was hit by passenger train No.'
20, going from Macon to Vidalia, in
charge of Conductor Turner, with
Engineer Gibson running the engine.
Her husband and a companion, C. I’.
Pope, had reached the end of the
trestle by the time the train came
around the curve, and were not in
jured.
According to her husband’s state
ment, they were all three going to
Moore Station, about a mile from
the trestle. He and Pope had al
ready reached the end, while his
wife was behind them. When the
train came around the curve and
reached the end of the trestle they
had just left, and he tried to wave
the train down and stop it, but did
not know whether they could see the
signal or not hetore striking his
wife and killing her.
Engineer Gibson stated that he saw
the woman after the engine came
from around the curve at the head of
the trestle and started across. He
put on all the brakes he had, but the
distance "was too short and the train
could not be stopped. The woman,
seemed unable to move, but stood
still on the trestle until the train hit
her.
Some of the passengers on the train
stated they heard the whistle and
wondered what was wrong, then felt
the brakes go hard almost in the
same instant. The train slid, how
ever, and it was going down grade,
and by the time it could be stopped
