CAMrjEAR MACON
SCOUTMASTER DOWNS MAKES
ARRANGEMENTS FOR LOCAL
TROOP TO ENJOY CAMP OF
MACON SCOUTS I NAUGUST.
A great deal has been done and
said about the Girl Scout camp to be
held next month. Plans are also
being made for the Boy Scout camp.
The Macon Council has provided
a camp for the Macon Scouts out at
Houston Factory and it will be call
ed Camp Mason. This camp will
be operated from July 11th to Au
gust 22nd. Through the Scout Ex
ecutive, Mr. H. O. Hunter, of Ma
ron, the privilege of this camp is ex
| tended to tire boys of our troop for
the week beginning August Bth, and
our boys will be given the same ad
vantages as the Macon Scouts.
Every provision will be made for
safety and instruction. The Scouts'
pledge to keep “Physically strong,
mentally awake, and morally straight”
is the ambition of every true Scout.
It is the intention of the Macon
Council in conducting this camp t
help the Scouts live the Scout Oath
and Law, and at the same time to
make them more proficient in outdoor
activities', to help them have a good
time, and to provide an attractive,
live and beneficia l program.
It is hardly possible to even sum
marize the many wonderful things
Scouts can do on a real camp. The
program will always be full of fun,
instructive and fine things that you
’wouldn’t understand what we were
talking about unless you had been
on one of these camps. There will
he instruction in Scouting, swimmim
•and life-saving; nature study, boat,
overnight, supper and adventure
bikes; games of every kind; great
camp fires; comradeship with the
best Scouts on earth.
The following is a general outline
of daily program, although the va
rious events will be different each
day:
7:00 a. m.—Reveille.
7 :J0 —Exercise? and morning dip.
7 :30—Breakfast.
B:ls—Clean up.
B:4s—lnspection of quarters.
9 :00—Scout Craft.
11:15—Morning swim.
12 :00—Dinner.
1:00 p. m.—Resf period.
2:oo—Games, hikes, stunts, rtc.
4:ls—Afternoon swim.
5:30 —Retreat and flag ceremony.
6 :00—Supper.
7:oo—Campfire games.
8 :30—Campfire.
10.00—Taps.
The camp fee will he $5.00 per
week, plus transportation. This in
cludes all expenses to the Scout
while on camp. One dollar registr:*
tion fee must he paid when applia
tion card is turned in, and the bal
ance before June 30th. The Macon
Council has made this fee as low as
possible, barely enough to cover the
costs of food alone. The Council,
however, has spent a large sum or
equipment and improvements and r
prepared to operate a splendid, up-to
date camp.
The Camp Mason oar pin will l>e
awarded to every satisfactory camp
er. Points are scoi cd upon comple
tion of certain requirements, and an
emblem awarded to every Scout se
curing the necessary number of these
points. The I point system will be
explained to each camper upon his
arrival at camp.
The camp site has been inspected
by health officers and they give a
perfect, «clelan hill of health. The
greatest sanitary and health pre-

cautions will he taken.
The Scoumtaster will soon send out
application cards to he filled out by
parents and returned to him in order
that he may know how many Scouts
will go.
A fund will be raised to help fi
nance this carp. Let’s give the boys
an opportunity to nave a good time
and see that every Scout goes. This
camp will mean much to the boys
and to Vidalia.
Also during the summer a short
camp near here will be conducted
for the Junior Scouts. All these
camps will have a great educational
value and the entire citizenship of
VTdalia should get hack of the move
ment and see that it is a success.

COM CLOSE
SOUTHERN BAPTISTS TRANSACT
MUCH IMPORTANT BUSINESS
AT CHATTANOOGA—I 922 MEET
ING PLACE LEFT OPEN
Chattanooga, May 17. —While the
meeting place of the 1922 session of
the Southern Baptist convention was
left to the executive committee at the
closing session here to-day for inves
tigation of the facilities and propo
sitions of competing cities consider
ation iwll be given only to the claims
ot Jacksonville. Fla.; Houston, Tex.;
Hot Springs, Ark., Atlanta, Kansas
City, St. Louis and Chattanooga.
Except the Atlanta convention 1919
when the $75,000,000 campaign was
projected, the session that closed at
noon to-day was marked by the trans
action of more important business
relative to the future program of the
demonination than almost any other,
in the opinion of the officials of the
body.
Among its actions were those relat
ing to completion of the $75,000,000
campaign, a progiam of evangelism 1
to reach all the local churches ; enroll
ment of a half millions tithers during
the year; establishment of another
theological seminary : the possible es-!
tablishment of one or more South- j
wide universities; provision for a new
charter of the convention and t’:e re
chartering of all of its generrd hoards
and the Southwiyle educational insti
tutions with a view to safeguarding
the denomination of all property:
suggestions to the Baptist colleges
and secondary institutions that they
establish their own standardizing
agencies rather than affiliate with
independent bodies, and provision
for the representation of women on
the executive committee and general
hoards of the convention after an
other year. , ,
The final session to-day was occupi
ed chiefly with a memorial service
honoring J. J. Darlington of Washing
ton, vice-president of the convention
in 1910, Dr. S. Y. Jameson. Atlan
ta, vice presidet in 1919. who died re
cently, Former United States Senator
Newell Sanders. Tennesee. was add
ed, to the commission on social ser
vice.
Total enrollment of messengers for
the session was 5,340.
CAMPING FEVER
It will not be long before the camp
ing fever and fishing fever will get a
strong hold on the people. It is a
danger period; camps have no sanita
tion as a rule, so look for typhoid,
diarrhea and dysentery. Where fisher
men fish mosquitoes usually are
plentiful and you may get malaria if
au infected mosquito bites you.
THOUSANDS SAVED
Thousands of dollars and many lives
have been saved our people by the
Venereal Disease Control Division of
the State Board of Health. This work
should not be allowed to cease or even
lag.
Thousands upon thousands hav*
been treated and made noil-infectious.
Thousands of Wassenuann tests have
been'made free of cost to the people.
TYPHOID FEVER
I
The season of the year for typhoid
fever is soon to begin. Why not
avoid this dreadful disease by clean
ing up, excluding the flies and vac
cination. The State Board of Health
furnishes typhoid vaccine free of
charge. You should take this precau
tion now. The immunity is supposed
to last two or three years.

SINGERS TO MEET
JRE IN JOLT
To the singers and citizens of Vida
lia and the Ist and 12th Congres
sional Districts of Georgia:
On the first Saturday and Sunday
in July next the gieatest convention
of singers will meet in the city of
Vidalia ever congiegated in South
Georgia. In the first place, the pres
ent convention is composed of all
the counties in the Ist and 12th cor.
gressional districts and all who are
acquainted with the leaders and the
singers of this territory know that
there is no section of Georgia with
as many noted singers and teacners
as there are in this section. Be
sides there arc more of them that at
tend this convention than any other
convention in the state. And besides
this. Vidalia is beautifully and cen
trally located, has many progressive
citizens, and the people of the coun
try around Vidalia are ready to help
out in all public undertakings. So
that it goes without the fear of con
tradiction that the coming conven
tion will be the greatest convention
yet held in this part of Georgia.
At this time people will be idle
and with nothing to do hut hitch up
John Henry and say, “Get in, old wo
man, and ye kids, for I’m going to
Vidalia today and hear those folks
sing.” Yes, and they will go, too,
just like I tell you.
VVe will have the best solo, duet
quartet and concert singing yet heard
in the city of Vidalia. Lots of noted
writers and composers will be there
besides our own talent, which i?
good.
A program will he published later,
in time to be distributed for both
days. All business w(ill be trans
acted on Saturday. We expect s
era! classes from the different coun
ties that will add interest to the cot i
vention, as each county will want oj
produce the best music. So get ye j
ready, one and all, for the greatest ;
array of musical talent yet assembled j
in this part of Georgia.
Yours to serve.

Money Grows
If you had a handful of wheat it would not make
you one meal, but if the handful of wheat was p'anted,
the harvest would serve to supply many meals.
The same thing is true with money. The little
savings will not purchase much, but planted in a reliable
bank, like ours they accumulate and with the interest
added make a siftn big enough to be worth while. For
money grows. The only question is regarding the
safety of the bank where your money is planted. The
hank must he safe, reliable and honest. Our hank is
t'.Kit kind.
