FIGHT THE BOLL WEEVIL
WITH PECAN SAYS JUDGE
According to Judge R. N. Harde- j
man, one of best weapons for the
farmers of Toombs to use in fighting
the boll weevil is the pecan.
At the court house Tuesday Judge
Hardeman was exhibiting a twig cut
from a pecan tree on his farm con
taining nine large nuts. The tree is
of the Stewart variety.
Judge Hardeman has 40 trees on
his farm and many of them will this*
year yield 10 bushels of pecans. So
far he has had an offer of 70 cents
per pound for his crop.
“Get nutty and plant pecans, is my
to all farmers in this section,”
says the Judge

plenty of good coffee and cornbread,
in fact made the outing last week
one of the most enjoyable the club
