IN MEMORY OF
CLAYBURN MORRIS
To know Clayburn as a fiiend or
relative meant to love him. As a
friend, I lived door neighbor for a
number of years, and 1 always found
him to be a true friend, a loving >
brother and a devoted son.
Clayburn was not a boy to make a
great show in this world, but you
could always count on him as true
and honest in all he promised. His
greatest pleasure seemed to he around
the fire-side with mother and father. |
In the kitchen, or in the house, wher- .
i ever mother was, Clayborn seemed to
find his greatest pleasure. All the
little boys liked to go and see Clay-1
born, because he knew just how to
give them a good time, and it seemed
that one of his greatest delights was
giving the girls, from the little tots ;
to the grown-ups, a good time, as
the writer had many such experiences
with him.
Four or five years before God call
ed him. his health failed so lie could
o
not go to school; then it seemed that
he gave his whole life up for the
pleasure of others. He took his fa
ther’s work in hand that he might
not be fully dependent on his aged
parents. He was always cheerful
and looked on the bright side, al
though he was a great sufferer, and
the nearer the end came, the happier
he seemed, and his Bible was one of
his best companions. If he walked,
it was in his vest pocket and if he
rode it was in his car pocket, and he i
would often take his Rible and read
to those in the car while riding with i
him. He wasn’t ashamed of his Bi
ble, either. Just before the last mo
ment of life he said, “Mama, I am
praying for each and every one of
you.” It was heart breaking to know
that we had to give him up, but a
sweet consolation that his last breath
was prayer for bis loved ones.
The writer would say to those who
are grieving over his departure to
read the lines below and weep no
more:
Safe in the arms of Jesus,
Safe in His gentle breast,
There by His love o”ershadowed,
Sweetly his soul f* at rest.
A FRIEND.
