turned a few days ago from Atlanta.
In this issue he gives a summary of
the actions of the assembly on a num
ber of important bills, very few of
which were passed by that body.
Services at the Mt. Vernon Pres
byterian church next Sabb th at 11
a. m. and 8:45 p. m. Preaching by
the pastor, Rev. W. C. Copeland. A
record attendance is anticipated at the
Sunday school hour, 10 a. m. The
roll will be called and each member
is expected to be present.
Mrs. W. C- Copeland and little
daughter left Saturday afternpon for
their home in Enfield, S. C. Mr.
Copeland will join them about Septem
ber 15th. Mt. Vernon friends regret
to have them leave. During the sum
mer Mt. Copeland has served the
Presbyterian church at this place, but
in September will resume his studies
in Columbia Theological Seminary.

Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Hough of
Jacksonville, Fla., are visiting the
former’s mother, Mrs. T. B. Adams,
south of Mt. Vernon. Mr. Hough is
editor of the Jacksonville Times-Un
ion and is one of the most able news
paper moil in Florida. He is enroute'
home from. a trip north. They are
annual visitors to Mt. Vernon and are
always pleasantly remembered by their
many friends.
Mr. Eugene D. White of Dublin has
purchased a half interest in the Ford
agency owned by Mr. P. J. McNatt,
Mt. Vernon,-and will assume < active
charge of the business. Mr. B. C.
Anderson will remain with the local
agency and the same mechanical force
will be attached to the Mt. Vernon
agency as heretofore. Mr. McNatt
and family will move to Vidalia about
the first of the month. Mr. White
will move his family to Mt. Vernon.

MONTGOMERY BOYS SELECTED
FOR STOCK-JUDGING CONTEST
Wednesday at the farm of Rich
mond & McArthur at Ailey a prelimi
nary stock-judging contest was held
among 35 boys, club members of the
county, to select a team to enter the
district contest at Savannah next
Monday.
The contest was under the direction
of J. F. Hart, Jr., county demon
strator of Laurens county, assisted by
J. B. Tyre, of Montgomery county.
Mr. Hart said after the contest that
taken as a whole the Montgomery
boys made the best score of any con
test he has ever known. Jefferson
Godowns of Ailey made 100 in judg
ing hogs, an unusual score, and 50 in
judging cattle. Others making good
marks were:
Chess Moxley, hogs 85, Cows 75.
Louis Ricks, hogs 85, cows 75.
Carl T. Johnsop, hogs 75, cows 70.
Messrs. Godowns, Moxley and Ricks
leave Sunday for Savannah to enter
the district contest, there next week.
Winners in the district conest will try
out for places in the state contest in
Atlanta.

The Montgomery County Cotton
Growers Association, organized in Mt.
Vernon last Friday atfernoon, elected
the following officers:
J. C. McAllister, Chairman.
J. M. D. McGregor, Vice-Chm.
Thos. B. Conner, Sec’y-Treas.
The next meeting will he held in Mt.
Vernon Friday afternoon, the 25th
instant, and all members are urged to
be present. This is a co-operative
organization and no doubt will be
productive of good to the cotton
growers of the county.

class condition and I am in shape to
give first class ginning service. I am
also in the market for seed and cot

The County Commissioners of Mont
gomery county, Georgia, will offer for
sale or lease, before the court house
door in said county, within the legal
hours of sale, on the first Tuesday in
September, 1922, to the highest and
best bidder, the following described
property, known as the Montgomery
County Farm, located about four
miles north of Mt. Vernon ,and front
ing on the Mt. Vernon and Soperton
highway, containing three hundred
and fifty-five (355) acres more or less,
and bounded on the north by lands
of F. Lee Mcßae, east by lands of N.
L. Spooner and lands of the estate of
K. Garner, and by Bear Creek, south
by Bear Creek, and on the west by
the Mt. Vernon, and Soperton public
road. In the above tract of land there
are now under cultivation about 150
acres, and all the other land except
about thirty acres is enclosed with a
good wire fence for pasturage.
There are five tenant houses on the
farm and two large barns.
We will be glad to show any pros
pective purchaser over this farm at
any time before the date of sale.
The Board of Commissioners reserve
the right to reject any or all bids
either for sale or lease.
The term of lease would be five
years.

warranty deed dated April 20, 1916,
and duly recorded in Book 22, at
pages 296-97 of the Land Records of

ed to the Pearsons-Taft Land Credit
Company, a corporation, the follow
ing described real estate in Montgom
