MRS. POE ENTERTAINS
SALMAGUNDI CLUB.
Mrs. J. W. Poe was the charming
hostess to the Salmagundi Club Wed
nesday afternoon of last week. The
home was attractively decorated in
yellow chrysanthemums and the hos
tess was assisted in entertaining by
Mrs. Bland and Mrs. Coombs.
Following the game, at which Mrs.
Brundage made top score, a dainty
salad course was served.

The Woman’s Baptist Missionary
Society of the Baptist church met on
Tuesday afternoon. After a short
business session, Mrs. V. B. Herring
conducted the Bible study. Mrs. J.
J. A. Bland, .Mrs. J. C. Price and
Mrs. J. R. Miller gave very inter
esting talks. >
Mrs. Lee, leader of the Mission
Study, insists upon every member of
the society coming out next Tuesday
afternoon, as she will begin teaching
“The Wandering Jew in Brazil.” The
first lesson is very important, so let
all members come and bring their
books.

Miss Jessie Lee Hall of Alamo re
turned home Tuesday, after a visit to
her sister, Mrs E. M. Auld.
Dr. W. H. Smith, of the Educa
tional Board of the Southern Baptist
convention, preached at the Baptist
church Sunday night.
Mr. J. H. Crosby of Baxley, who
has been at the Vidalia Hospital for
treatment, was able to leave for his
home Thursday.
Mrs. McDaniel of Collins was op
erated upon at the hospital Wednes
day. She is reported to be doing
nicely.
Drs. T. C. Thompson anu J. W.
Palmer will leave Sunday to attend
the Southern Medical Association in
Chattanooga.

J. Donaldson were called to Manning
Thurday <by the critical illness of
their brother.
Mr. E. M. McNatt, who travels out
of Chicago, was here several days of
this week visiting his brother, Mr. P.
J. McNatt.
Mrs. S. A. Scarboro lets Thurs
day for her home in Atlanta, after a
visit to her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
G. W. Futrel.

here, having come up to attend the
funeral of Mr. G. R. Futrel.
CLAXTON GETS THE NEXT
DIST. EPWORTH LEAGUE
The Epworth League conference for
the Mcßae district held in Vidala
last Friday, Saturday and Sunday
brought a number of delegates from
over the district to Vidalia, and re
ports from the different leagues show
ed a great work was being done by
the young people in the church.
Claxton was selected for the confer
ence next year.
Rev. J. M. Outler, presiding elder
of the district, was present Sunday
evening, closing the conference with a
beautiful consecration servee.
ROUND DOZEN CLUB
MEETS WITH MRS. JONES.
The Round Dozen Club met with
Mrs. W. A. Jones last Thursday af
ternoon, in addition to the club mem
bers there being a number of invited
guests. Large yellow chrysanthe
mums in wall baskets were used for
decorations. Top score was made by
Mrs. Napier.
During the afternoon a refreshing
salad course was served.
SERIES OF PARTIES
FOR MRS. HOLT.
Mrs. T. B. Youmans entertained
at a series of parties Tuesday in honor
of her mother, Mrs. P. N. Holt, of
Americus. The lovely country home
was unusually attractive in its deco
rations of pink cannas. Bridge was
played at three tables in the morning,
Mrs. L. C. Outler making top score.
In the afternoon Rook was played, the
best score being made by Mrs. J. C.
Timmerman.
Following the games, appetizing sal
