New Production
Record Made By
Cherolet Motor Co.
Spurred on by the greatest demand
in its history, Chevrolet in April
j again set up a new production record
with a total output for the month of
111,937 units. This exceds by 4,-
037 units tbe best previous monthly j
performance in the history of the
company and establishes an all-time
record for the monthly production
of grea-shift cars.
Equally as spectacular as the re
markable monthly production feat .
and dividing the spotlight with it
was the mark established April 29,
when in the short space of a day’s
working hours, the factories built
5,347 Chevrolet cars and trucks.
Brewton-Parker
Plans Enlargement
Program For School
At a recent meeting of the board
of trustees of the Brewton-Parker
Institute held in Mt. Vernon, plans
for the enlargement of the school
were approved. The institution,
under the plans, will be made a jun
ior college, a rating to which it has
aspired for the past several years.
For two years the Institute has been
doing first-year college work, and
with the opening of the fall term the
curriculum will embrace a two-year
college course.
The board authorized the employ
ment of a field a <? ent * whose duties
will be to solicit an endowment for
the purpose of raising the standard
to that of a junior college.
The board meeting was attended
by twenty-five or more members,
representing eight or more associa
representing eight associations in
the southeastern part of the state.
The officers of the board, for con
venience and expediency, are drawn
from local citizens and are as follows:
A. B. Hutcheson, president, Dr. J.
W. Palmer, secretary; M. B. Calhoun,
treasurer.
Mrs. John Eli Mathews and attrac
tive young children and Mr. and Mrs.
Marion Schumpert of Jacksonville,
Fla., were here this week as the
guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Coombs.
They were accompanied home on the \
return trip by Mr. J. A. Bland, who
will be their guest for several days.
Most of the big jobs are held by
me nwho couldn’t even name three
naughty magazines.
This was 272 units in excess of the
best previous day’s record.
It was particulary fitting that the
record day happened to be the same
1 one that Alfred P. Sloan, Jr., presi- !
dent of the General Motors Corpora- |
tion, chose for a visit to the Flint I
plant. Mr. Sloan, with C. S. Mott, j
vice president of the General Motors j
Corporation, arrived at the factory
early in the day as guests of W. S.
Knudson, president, and C. F. Flint,
vice president of the Chevrolet Motor
ompany.
Before Mr. Sloan had completed j
his inspection of the big Hint plant,
where men and machinery were com
bining to build the eight types of
Chevrolet cars now available, it was
evident that a new production record
was in sight.
Mr. Sloan waited for number
5,347 to come off the line, congrat- !
ulated Mr. Knudsen on the remark
able showing being made by the
Chevrolet Motor Company and its
product and rode off the line in the
1 epoch-making model which again hap
! pened to be a coach.
