Reinstate Insurance In
June, Says Gen. Hines
Brig, Gen. Frank T. Hines, Director
of the U. S. Veterans Bureau an
nounced today that the exast amount
of War Risk insurance reinstated and
i
converted by veterans prior to mid
night of July 2, cannot be given at
this time due to the fact that all ap
plications have net yet been received
from the Bureau’s Regional Offices
* and hospitals. Gen. Hines estimated,
however, that the applications for
conversion of yearly renewable term
insurance during the month of June (
alone will run between 175,000 and
200,000. Os this number, it was es
timated that more than 100,00 men
i whohad previously allowed their in
surance to lapse reinstated their in
surance during that period.
] Gen. Hines called attention to the
fact that the enormous volume of ap
plicaions received has passed all ex
pectations and makes the task of re
cording and issuing the new con
, verted policies an unprecedented one.
Application are being acted upon in
the order in which they are received

in the Bureau. Therefore, the ex
service man, who applied for his in- i
sarance at the last minute, cannot
expect to receive his converted poli
cy for some time to come. For this [
reason, Gen. Hines stated, all appli
cants are urged to continue payments
of their premiums even though they
have not yet received their policies;
and to further assist in xpediting the
work, the veterans are also urged to
refrain from writing th Burau con
cerning their insurance as receipt of
additional correspondence wil simply
place an added burden upon the Bu
reau’s already over-worked personnel.
In regard to this situation, Gen.
Hines took occasion to compliment
all employes who have worked over
( time in this drive and stated that al-J 1
though the regular personnel in Cen
tral Office had been augmented by
the addition of a number of tempo
rary employes the employes of the
Insurance Division and others in the
! Central Office have worked night and
day in an effort to place the work on
a current basis an dthe Insurance |
Division has given up all thought of I
Summer vacations and will continue j
its work unabated until the work is
current.
The Director stated that this ad-
i
ditional effort on the part of the em
ployes had been uniform throughout
all Regional Offices and hospitals and
he also expressed appreciation for
the splendid co-operation of ex-serv
ice organizations, the co-operating
agencies, insurance companies, the
press, and the business men of the
Country.
In Memorium
On Monday afternoon, July 4th,
the Death Angel visited the home of
Mr. and Mrs. S. M. Larisey and bore
away the spirit of little Allen, born
May 20, 1907, who had suffered great
affliction during his entire life.
I ( He was very ill for three weeks
1 when his pain was exceedingly
vere, but he bore jt with humble sub
mission, and after all was done that
loving hands could do, his soul took
its flight back to God, Who gave it.
Weep not, dear parents; your loss
is Allen’s gain, for now he lives
where there is no more pain and waits
| your coming with his little hands
! beckoning to meet him in the glory
! world.
A place is vacant in the home and
a patient mother’s heart is empty, but
the Lord doeth all things well; blessed
i be the name of the Lord.
