The response to Mrs. F. M. W.’s

ing verses, cut from a Southern news
paper by a Pictorial Review subscrib

|of our readers may know the name
jof the author:
WHICH?
I She was a woman worn and thin,
Whom the world condemned for a sin
gle sin;
They cast her (git on the King’s high-
I way,
And passed her by and they went
J their way.
He was a man and more to blame;
| But the world spared him a breath of
shame;
Beneath his feet he saw her lie,
But he raised his head and passed her
| by.
They were the people who went to
I pray,
At the temple of God on the holy day;
They scorned the woman, forgave the
man —
It was ever thus since the world be
gan.
Time passed on and the woman died—
On the cross of shame was crusified;
But the world was stern and would
not yield.
Ar.d they buried her on the potters’
field.
The man died, too, and they buried J
• < «
him
In a casket of cloth with a silver rim,
And they said a* they: turned fyc«n his
grave away;
“We’ve buried an honest man today.”
< . '•
Two mortals.knocked af»heatferi’s gate
And stood face to face to inquire
their fate. „
He carried a passport with earthly
sign,
And she stood with a pardon from '
love divine. J
O, we who judge ’twixt virtue and
vice—
Which think ye entered paradise?
