KILLING NEAR OLIVER
/ Last Saturday night Henry War
ren and Nero Blake shot and killed
, Edmund Reed, at a house occupied
by Grant Goldwire, where a festival
had been in progress during the day.
It seems that the negroes had been
quarreling and trying to light all
day but were prevented by others
present, when time to break up came
Reed went oil and returned withah a
gun. lie was accompanied by Nero
Blake and Henry Lee, and without
warning he fired on the Reed negro.
A general fusilade followed, two or
three others were shot; and Reed was
killed.
Sunday at noon a friend of the
murdered negro came to Sylvania,
swore out warrants for the arrest of
Henry Warren and Nero Blake as
principals, and Henry Lee as acces
sory, Deputy J. W. Arnett left im
mediately for the scene of the killing
and finally succeeded in arresting
Nero Blake, and Henry Lee and land
ing them safely in jail, Warren
making his escape before the arri
val of the officer. Deputy Arnett is to
be congratulated on his faithful and
efficient work. Had he not acted at
once, the whole trio would have es

TYBEE EXCURSION

ery Sunday over this road, during
the Tybee season. Train will
leave Sylvania at 7:30 a. m., and
returning leave Rocky Ford at
8:45 p. m. Fare for the round
trip, from all points on Sylvania
Central Railway, to Tybee and

twelve years at half rate.

GAMES AT WAYNESBORO
On Monday the 19th inst. the boys
from Sylvania went over to Waynes
boro to try their skill. As a conse
quence of which, while they lost two
out of the three games, still they are
in a happy mood over the showing
made by them.
In the first game, played on Monday
afternoon. Waynesboro suceeded in
wresting it by a score of three to one.
The boys hacl on their moving clothes
in this game, and piled up nine in
nings in onejhour and twenty minutes.
