DEATH OF ADELINE SAXON
On Sunday last Adeline Saxon an
aged negress died at her home in
Sylvania, she was nearly one hun
dred years of age, and had spent a
considerable portion of her life in
Sylvania.
She belonged to the old ante-bell
um class of negroes, and no negro
ever lived in our town who was
thought more of than old Aunt Ade
line. She bad a thorough contempt
for meanness in any form, and of all
things on earth she despised it was
a mean negro. She was supported
during the last few years of her life
by charity to a largo extent, and
spent most of her time either in her
little cabin or at the home of her
white friends telling of old ante-bell
mu times, and deploring the worth
lepiess lesrtiess of her x L race. On Monday
Aery $e was buried in the colored of ceme- the
atlhis place, as a token
j esteem she was held in by the white
.people and as an appreciation of the
high regard in which she was held.
The following, white citizens of our
townacWl-p-M-anjWO* street, P. L. Hemp, Dr. B. R. Saxon,
Judge J. W. Overstreet, and W. M.
Hobby. Rev. J. A. Seals conducted
the funeral ceremonies.

259TH DISTRICT
COTTON ASSOCIATION
We regret that on account of a
misunderstanding we had no repre
sentative at the last county meeting,
but trust there was a' good delega
tion from the other districts and a
profitable meeting was held.
Our club has about thirty mem
bers, and we hold meetings at the
district precinct at three o’clock the
first Wednesday in each month.
We have been so busy fighting
grass that all our members have not
attended regularly, but we hope to
1 .I that +
, hove -| better .. attendance . . now
crops ' are discussions in'good condition.
The of the objects and
aims of the Association, what it has
already accomplished and what may
bedone through its agency has
proven interesting and instructive
to us. Indications point very clear*
ly to the fact that cotton producers
have control of the situation and
with the co-operation of the cotton
factors, merchants, manufacturers,
bankers and boards of trade that has
been so cheerfully accorded, the
time is not far distant when we will
not look to Liverpool or Wall Street
to control the price and
of cotton but we will have Southern
men competent to attend to that job.
