APR IL 11), 1881 . Plain Taik About the South WuKliingtui. Font. The sectional debate inti which the Mahone affair has needlessly led the senate seems to be generally ignored by the country. Indiffer ence in tho north is met by uncon cern in the south. Welcome signs, indeed. But is it remarkable that this should bo so ? Wbn' do business men care about exaggerated re hearsals of the crime and excesses incident to reconstruction ? What interest has Senator Hill's political position in 1860, Senator Brown's in 1888 or Senator Hoar's in 1877 for thrifty farmers and enterprising capitalists ? The south is engrossing public attt ution just now, not ns the south of ’CI, ’G.i or 70, but as the south of‘Bl. Northern capitalists are * beginning to develop this grand re gion, the garden spot of the coun try. They are building railroads, erecting manufactories and grow ing cotton and sugar cane. They come not as politicians, but as bus iness men And they are royally welcomed on all sides. The scene is a pleasant one, in which the south rejoices and the north takes pride. Joined togeth er thus, the ties being those of in dividual interest, us strong as last ing, what c ,ro tho sections for the memories of the past ? Nothing at all. Let the senators talk on. Let them excite themselves as much as they pleaso. It is all harmless amusement now. Out side of the chamber nobody is in terested. Good Advice- C.irtorsville Kxprass. If yon do not rpiit buying so much corn, meal and hav yon will become impov nulled next year. Tour money end credit will be gone. You will lie in u dh-iuid fix. Your In rses will die on high provender. You will he bankrupt. You cannot meet your taxes. An eight million halo crop of cot ton will be attempted. If it succeeds your best cotton wih bring six cents, and poor three or four cents. The world n nv lias 2,900,000 bales of old cotton in sight, and at least oOd.OOO bales more to come in. These are official facts. You are sensible men. Show it by sowing more oats oven now. Plant largely of corn. Sow liberally in May or Juno German millet for hay. In due time sow from two to twenty acres in clover, lUise hogs, or you will pay twelve and a half to fifteen cents for western bacon. We know you will not relish this advice. You will say it is none oi our bus iness, but we feel all we have writ ten. We have diseli rged a duty, and we leave it to your sound'’judge ment. Bang Up Obituary. GeokGu.—Cotton says: All ac counts agree that there will be -an other large increase of acreage in the ridge lands of Northwest Geor gia, which have L'iven most of the increase of acreage in recei t years, | That coun’ry has hitherto been a grain region, but cotton culture is found to be more profitable. What we wish to emphathize is the fact that the Southern Status, without foreign immigration have grown more rapidly in population during the last ten years than the ! new c-msus shows there has been a i large increase of the foreigu e!#' 1 meet. •I’llK WEEK AUHOAO.
