Almost a Pire.
On Wednesday night last a servant in
the dwelling of Ala j. E 13 Smith was in
! structed to procure some a tides of
clothing from a basket ujder a bed iu a
room not occupied. Tne servant with a
caudie proceeded thither, amt in getting
out the clothing set fire unwutiugly to
the bed spread, shutting the room door
iu passing out. About a hell' hour af
terwards two little negro girls living on
the place discovered a light through the

a mattress or two, a good ileal of bed
clothing and the lager portion ot the

headway. A bucket or two ol water
from Maj. Smith made things all quiet.
