After u jilwumoL trip over the Tulbot
! ton and Central llailroadu, we arrived in
Atlanta in good trim on the morning of
the 11th, in time 10 make connection
with the elegant breakfoat no generously
tendered the Pres# Asaoci iticn by Mewtra
Hcovillc & Terry, of that famous hostelry,
the Kimball Ho one. It ih a nheer want
!o! words* to praise the efforts ot these
i gentlemen m babul fof the press. The
' repast was most royal and, tiie extensive
bill ot lure, the French part and uli, was
served in a style commensurate with the
liberal management and progressive en
terprise of the well known proprietors.
Of gcnGeinen and ladies there were more
than a hundred who sat at this sumptuous
least. At 8:40 a. ru., the gang
hoarded the elegant coaches of the Wes
tern A Atlantic Railroad, tinder the
prompt and eflicieTit control of that prince
of rnilroa l managers, Beverly W Wreun,
who spared no effort to make enjoyable
the trip to ito mo. This was a compli
mentary benefit tendered the Georgia
Press by the libvrnl management of the
WSi A Hull road, and was executed with
| munterful ability by Capt Wreun, who,
i (JoubUets bus as many warm personal
| friends among “the boys- as any railroad
man in the State. At Kingston the ex
! cursioti cars were switched off on the j
; Home lailroa i, arriving at Rome at about i
|l2 o'clock, in. A large delegation j
:of representative citizens met tlio Asso
j ciatien at the depot and had the mew- .
hers quickly assigned to places at differ
ent hotels in the city The convention
met at Nevin’s Opera House and imme
diately proceeded to organize, after which
by general consent dinner was voted ns
the next question in order. Tickets to a
performance of the junior students ot the
Rome Female College, at the Opera on
Wednesday nigLt, to a street exposition
of thu various industries of Rome, a ban- 1
qnet on the evening of the 13th, to a re- ,
gat fa on the Etowah on the evening of
the lltli, in fact compUraentarics to
everything were received and accepted
! with great unanimity
THK RTBB3CT EXPOSITION,
Said to have been conceived by the negro
dr/iym*n of the city, wn at once unique
.vnd comprehenwive as representing the
cotton, iron, manufacturing, agricultural
and other imluHtrien ot that section. It
was most complete, being exhibited on
wagons driven through the principal
streetH, and elicited the admiration and
cnthuKiaHiu of the press generally. On
a bale of cotton was written, ‘IOB,OOO
bales shipped down the Oustanaul.t this j
sension.*' This is certainly a superb j
showing for the mountain city.
THE REOATTV
Of the several boat crews of the city in j
the afternoon, while not quite up to
similar performances at Harvard, U. S.
or Cambridge, England, was yet highly
creditable to the participants. From j
lack of information we are unable to nay
anything of the lesults oi the watery con- !
test.
THE Etc onflow
On Thursday down th* Oustanaula wa> ;
altogether enjoyable and displayed on
either bank a wonderfully f r ile and pic
turasqna country, rugged in its moun
tain defiles a short distance off, clmim
mg in the Blmdes and sunshine of its
beautiful inter vales.
THK BANQUET
At Noble Hall oilled out the beauty and
chivalry of this proud and active moun
tain city. Her rosy checked and lovable
daught*iH, wo Ofine, never appeared t •>
better advantage, whilo not a lew of the
quill drivers hud enou misgivings us to ,
tin; result ol their contact with such in
telltgeut and charming creatures. The :
odililo part of tho entertainment, was |
tally up to the demands of the modern \
euwimi while the taldes were tastefully ;
and hftudHmntdy ornamented and shone |
i*. splendent in ilt the wealth of good 1
cheer. Tl.e occasion was a m ost agrees-!
ble one, and will long he remembered by j
those In whose honor it was tendered.
THK lUHIM.HH OF THE CONVENTION, I
Comprising nustvl laneons matters ;
generally ol the croft was dispensed in ;
two sessions per day, the tudy adjourn
ing on Thursday evening to meet next!
year in Augusta. A called session of the
Association was ordered lor Atlanta dur I
mg the holding of the International Cot- j
jj on Expedition in October. Previous to !
| adjournment, the ladies of Home petr
i tioned the Convention to commit itsel*
| on the side of the temperance cause, and
|to exert their great reformatory powers
in n crusade against an agent that is
| causing much demoralization in society
| and cursing the flower at the country's
manhood. The Association accordingly
j passed a series of resolutions on the hue
i indicated. Tho election of officers for
: the eusuing vear resulted in the re elec
! tion ot J H Kstill, ot tho Savannah
; Morning News, as President. The other
| officers were also re -elected.
THE EXERCISES

male College, in the Opera House on
Wednesday night,consisted ofjclioice rec
itations, music, Ac. and 111 part second
programme “Little Red Riding Hood 4 ,]
was given m a highly artistic style. The ;
little girls were beautifully arravbd in 1
white, each one supporting a pair ot tiny j
angel wings which made them look quit#
seraphic. The renditions throughout j
were highly creditable to the faculty of j
the college. At the conclusion of the ex- ]

not disappointed in their expectations.
Every room is twenty leet square, elab

ROME.
The city is situated at the junction of
! the Etow ih and Oustanaula rivers, the
latter being navigable to Rome. The
boatiug business is very large in cotton,
grain, iron and ores, coal, Ac. (Ine hun
dred and eight thousand bales of cotton
have for the season been received in the
city. In manufacturing, commercial and
general interests Romo is growing with
rapid strides, and bids]fall to be the entre- j
pot for that entire section of Georgia
and adjacent Alabama. She has a steam
cotton com press, with large capacity, and j
other manufacturing industries which ■
keep the liL blood pulsing and thrilling j
in her indastri.il veins. Altogether
Rome is a thriving, solid city, now hav
ing a population of 0,000, and possesses j
immense possibilities lor the future
Her people are enterprising and intelli
gent, sustaining with commendable pride
a large number of educational mstitu
tions, are hospitable and attentive to ‘
strangers and seemed to be enthused with j
their bright prospects. We hope their j
till lest expectations, as they deserve to
be,will be realized. O. G.
