Having load a iluttenng neccunt of this clover in a Califonua paper,l obtained soma of tho seed, 'l’lioy wore planted among oats. It made a splendid growth the first year, but the increase of tho seed or burrs made a wonderful growth. Thu second Spring I began to cut and feed to my mules, and cat le, early in March, its growth being very rapid after cutting. 1 did the work with a common reap hook. Many experiments wore made at different stages of its growth, and in its curing. Unlike most speeies of clover it has no bad effect on animals eating it, whether in large or small quantities. I took pains to save tho burrs raised the second year, and made several bushels of them, which I sound as thick as wheat. On a piece of ground well pulverized, that had been made rich with compost the crop raised tho third year was truly wonder ful. This year was one of scarcity iu long forage, and I used tho clo ver beginning in February—run ning through a cutting machine with bad hay and straw. My mules were fed on it regularly, sav ing corn, and keeping them iu good working order. My experiments satisfy mo that tho accounts given of this clover by the Ca!ih irnia papers are not exig gerated as lo its excellence. Jt af lords a Hue winter pasturage for sheep in the mountains of that country, who seek it in the dry season and keep till U| on it. This clover puts out rtinners in every di rect ion 10 lo lit! inches long—?.ach runner has a cluster of burrs every inch, each containing from three to six seed. It, begins to bloom wh.n 2 inches high, and as soon as the cluster comes at each joint -V far mer who once uses this clover would not bo without it. There is no telling how many tons of ilia best feed for animals can bn raised on one aero of gr und enriched or natively rich when set with this val u'd tr clover. William B.uwm. Millo lgeville, Ga , J une hill 1881. I‘. S. I have packagoa of the seed of this clover for salo. Cash Versus Credit. Any retail dealer can buy clos er willi cash than with credit. Tim cl'-sor lie buys tho greater are his profi s. Money put down on bis counter gives him a chance to dis count bis paper, meet his noies and pay current expenses. Charges on the hook mciiM cash next month, or Urn month after, or next year. Cash asks no favors except to be waited upon. Credit must have a book keeper, a collector and a lawyer, li a retail dealer in groceries asks tliu price of starch, he is told that he cm have itaf. so much credit or so much for spot cash. If a consumer asks the price of tho retailer, it is one price to Cash Down or Dead Beat. The more one thinks f.hi* matter over the more ho realizes the force of the remark of a prominent Wes tern financier, who lately observed: “The man who pays cash when lie can get credit is a fool." And so say we all. If Dead Beat is to have the same price as Cash Down, with an additional advantage of sixty six days' time —which means time. ty in nineteen casus out of twenty, why do ;.ny of us pay cask ? Why not all take credit ?—Detroit Free Bless. The Now Revised Testa ment- Wo have read many of the texts changed by the revisers of tho New Testament. These changes we think commend themselves to the cultivated and intelligent Bible reader. They do not change as far as wo have seen the moaning of the texts, but make tho translation pure, exact, and clear. It is evi dent that a modern Bible should bo translated into modern language, A Bible, translated into English a thousand yeais ago, would bo hardly intelligible to the people of this agj. Onr lauguage has been enlarged and improved. Tnerefore we look upon the Bible revision as necessary and proper, and the re visers have done their work well. B igar does not injure sound teeth but, on the contrary, improves, them by assisting the solution ot the food which supplies lime for their nourishment. Sugar some times causes pain in decayed teeth. As creosote relieves an aching tooth by coagulating a film of albumen over the nerve, so sugar may cause a tooth to ache lj y dissolving the albumen by which tin nerve may be piotecfed. Negroes, who eat large quantities sugar, have b iau tifui teeth. Wise and Otherwise. During the late session of con gress five senators, resigned their | seats—Messrs. Blaine, YVindom Kirkwood, Gonkliug and l’latt. The grave of Mr Thomas A Scott will bo watched by men hired for that, purpose. There is to be no Stewart in disease with the bones of the railway king. Thirty-seven years ago the first message was sent by electricity, and then it required two operators and a strip of paper, from which tho words were laboriously deciphered and tr nscribed. To day you can go to a telephone and tell a man ten miles off that lie is a liar, and ho won't know where or who you are, San Antonia Texas, comes to the front with ripe watermelons. Galveston, Marshall, Dallas, Fort Worth, Sherman, Austin and San Antonio, Texas, are to be connec ted by telephone. Cattle, in considerable numbers, are dying Eelow Chattanooga, Ten nessee, of suine unknown disease. Of the 1,000,000,000 acres of cul tivable land in tho United States, only eleven and a half per cent, are utod. The negroes of west Tennessee have again taken the Kansas fever, and are leaving by tho hundreds almost daily. Aimost every comity in Tonuos soo has taken stops for the improve ment of the public roads, under tho new law. Tho most remarkable run over mado on an American railroad was that from Detroit to Victoria, a dis tance of 229 miles, iu 23,1 minutes running time. It was a special train with tho Vanderbilt private car carrying a party of railroad magnates. /Y. Tar-Heel with a Record Asheboro N. Y. Courier. In (his county is a man eighty six yen.’s old, who walks live miles to mill twice a month and curries oihi bushel of corn; has fourteen children and whips eight of them whenever they need it; has now a wife tvvunty-fonr yeans of age; has bmui married four limes; has used tobacco fifty years; gls drunk regu larly at every court and every Christmas; never cursed but once in hislifi jloves to hear good preach' big, {foes to church regularly; voted the Democratic licket;ean vvtiip any man of his years and weight in the State a fair list and skull rub, and never paid a lawyer's fee nor a doc' tor's bill, - Save your Sugar. Every housekeeper should know that, iiigar boiled with an acid, if it he but for throe minutes, will be converted into glucose, which is the form of sugar found in sweet ap pies. Ouo pound of sugar has as much sweetening power as two and onc'tourlh p muJs of glucose. In other words, one pound of sugar stirred into the fruit after it is cook ed, and while yet warm, will make the fruit as sweet as two and one fourth pounds added while the fruit is boilimr. -• Nothing Like Buttermilk. A prominent physician declaims there is nothing like bultermilK for hot weather drink. It, is both food and drink; supports tiie system and oven ia fever will cool the atom, acli admirably; it is a most valuable domestic mcdicino, and will cure dyspepsia as well as and more quick than any other remedy, A French law provides that any citizen wno looses his life while raving life or property at a tire, any physician who dies while laboring iu tho hospital in time of epidemic, or any one who dies while endeav oring to save a fellow being, shall be regarded as a soldier slain on the battlefield, and insures a dou ble pension to his family. This is just such a law as should ho euact ed everywhere, and ibis country especially should not hr behind any of ihe powers of tho old world in the recoguiz Uion of brave deeds. ♦ The Interiiation.il Sun-lay School Con vention will meet t Toronto, Canada, June 22d, 23d.
