The summer travel over our railroad is

| The saving, 'self-help is the best
help,* finds a true illustration m th
growth and material progress of Talbot
| ton withiu the last twelve months. - ™Re
cognizing the importance of securing the
trade that would naturally seek this mar
ket. by extending to the people all the
facilities ol a railroad town, a lew of our
representative men in several sections of
the county determined to inaugurate and
successfully complete a railroad to con
nect us with the Central at Bostick.
This has been done, nu l the results are
altogether satisfactory while the prospec
tive increase and development of the gen
eral business will meet the most sanguine
expectations. Wo are gradually secur
ing all the machinery of a successful rail
road town, and whatever agencies that
Remain undeveloped as interest shall
dictate, make their appearance m due
course of time.
Among the most mu results of our
railroad connection may be noted, the es
tablishment of a large brick cotton ware
house, about a dozen new and handsome
dwelliugs, one ot tno most superb and
best appointed interior hotels in the
State, two mails, including Sundays, n
telegraph linebonuectiug with the W os
tein Uuion at Geneva, an express office,
the opening up o * several mercantile
houses, with the prospect of a half score
more in the lull, the location of largo
guano agencies with warehouses ol ini
mease storage capacity. Several com-;
moilious store houses arc now under con- ;
tract, and will be completed by the fall ;
the location of Talbotton is ouo ot the :
finest in tho SUte,bemg nearly 1000 fort
above sea level. It is noted for its re- ;
lined aud cultured society, its schools j
and churches, the hospitality and liberal '
bearing ol Its people It is altogether a j
fit representative ol the county of which !
it is the capital, of a citizenry acciedi- |
tod with progressive enterprise and nm
tenal advancement-* in all the arts of soc
ial and industrial iifo. And we do not
claim too much lor Talbotton when w.
stiv that before long she wi 1 be one of the
most famous health resorts in the State.
The tide is already sitting in this direc
tion, her proximity to tho tar famo.l
Chalybeate Springs, twelve miles north
ot us, lending additional charm to our
location for both health and pleasure
purp vses.

The Legislatuie is to convene tho first
