You may havt) great trials ami perplexities in your business j •villa the world, but do not, there-! fore, carry to your home a cloudy or contracted brow. Yoxr wife may have many trials, which though of less magnitude, may lie Imrd for her to bear, A kind, con ciliatory word, a tender look, will do wonders in chasing from her brow all clouds of gloom. You encounter your ditli mlties in open air, fanned by heaven's cool breezes; but your wife is often shut, in front those reviving influences, atul her health fails—bor spirits loso their elasticity. But, O! bear with her. Shelias trials and sorrows to which you are a stranger, but which your tenderness can deprive of all their anguish. Notice kindly her efforts to promote your comfort. Do not receive all it r good offices as a mat ter of course, aud pass them by, at the same tuna being very sure to observe any omission of wlrat you may consider duty to you. Do nut treat her with indifference, if you would not soar and palsy her heart, which, watered by kindness, would, to the last day of your existence, throb with constant and sincere af fection for you Sometimes yield your wishes to hors. Her prefer encos may boas strong as yours. Bcgunl it as an indulgence to your self to yield sometimes, THnk you it is not as difficult for her to give up always? Is there not dan ger sho will doom you selfish? With such an opinion s m cannot love as she might. Again: Show yourself a manly man, lit it your wife may look up to you, and feel that v ui will act nobly, and can coufide in your juilgmont. Pearls of Thought. Quarrels would be short-lived it the wrong wore only on one side. Slones first heard at a mother's knee him i.ever wholly forgotten, a little, spring that never dries up on your journey through scorching years. A sml truth, half of our forebo dings about our neighbors are but our own wishes, which we arc ashamed to utter in any other form The worthiest men uro most ins jured by slanders; ns uo usually find that, to be the best fruit which the birds have scon picking at. Sincerity is liko liuvoling in a plain beaten road, which common ly brings a man sootier to liin jour ney's etui than byways, iu which men often lose themselves. Let, us not forget dial every sta tion in life is nececHary; that eneli dm. ervos our respect; lln l not the station itself buttlio worthy fulfill ment of its duties and ies honor to man. Fashion is a style of dross which is oricrinatcd by the dmni-monde, either to hide their defects or to ex hibit their beauty, and which the rest of tlie world follows as religi ously us thought it were a revela tion. Cotton by Counties. The cotton crop of 1879.80 was officially counted, and we piesont this morning the result in the state by counties. This table gives ti c nciuii produtiion of each county the facts having been ascertained on each plantation and patch. It will be seen that the chief cotton counties of the state aro as fol lows: Burke, 29,172 bale"; Washington 23,058—-Houston, 19,099 —Troup, 18,655; Coweta—] 6,282; Mori wether, 15,154; Hancock, 15,0 U); Floyd, 14 545—Jefferson, 13,377, and Cobb, 13,092 bales. This li t comprises all t.lio comities that pro duced more than 13,000 hales, Bar tow, Greene, Gwinnett, Harris Henry, Monroe, Oglethorpe, Pike, Stewart, Sumte.t, Talbot, Walton and Wilkes are each credited will more than 13,000 bales. A Shower of Toads in Dela ware.—A shower of toads is re ported to have fallen a day or two ago near Delaware City, about twelve miles from Wilmington. The reptiles appeared after a vio lent storm. They vary from half an inch to an inch in length, and are very numerous. The farmers of the vicinity are both puzzled and annoyed over the phenomenon. It is unlawful in Massachusetts to keep a drinking liar in any place not visible from a public street, and screens or other obstruction to the view are prohibited, as well as any arrangement of bottles and casks to effect the same purpose. This law is now strictly enforced in Boston, where, in many instances, th bars have to be removed to front rooms, and uinlowa cu' 1 Ugh the walls. Wisa and Otherwise. Grass gets its dew—about the only tiling in this world that does. Every lie, says Owen, must be thatched with another, or it will soon rain through. The young mau who wants to get up with the sun must not sit up too into with thu daughter. ‘My wife,* remarked Fitzucodle, ‘is fairly crazy over tho spring fash ions. Sim's got the delirium trim ming.' Who says it’s unhealthy to sDep in feathers ? Look at the spring chicken, and see how tough lie is. Do not tell a man he lies. It is vulgar. Say that his conversation suggests to your mind a summer resort circular. Sunday may be n very solemn sort of day, but thero'u a sadder day comes just before it. A man never wants to be an ac complished linguist so much ns when ho has trodden on a bit of orange peel and lies flat on his back in consequence. At such n time it requires much more than the vocabulary of any one lan guage to express his feelings. Little Johnny had been caught, by his aunt teasing a fly. ‘Johnny,' said she; suppose some great boast a thousand limes bigger than your-, self should tease you and perhaps eat you all up ? I hope, said John ny, he'd tool as bad as I do when I swallow a fly. A Noisy Booster.—At a recent poultry show a follow who was mak ing himself ridiculously conspicu ous at last broko out. Call these here prize fowls ? Why they ain't n >tl)iu‘ to wh it our folks raised, My f.dher raised tho biggest roos ter of any man round our parts. Don't doubt it,' remarked a by stander, ami tho noisest, too.' There is nothing like being pro)} erly urnrud and equipped for the bitlles of life. Siill, few are in tho happy condition of tho Irishman who sent a letter to a friend saying that while lie was writing ho hail a pistol in both hands and a sword in tho other. it is easy to love our neighbor so lung us In's hospitality holds out; but when thu summer season is over and we go back to town with the feeling Unit he aud his family will return our visit of six weeks in tho winter, our love changes to hate, and we hope lit) may have some do mestic affiction. Tho strawberry growers of a sin gle countv ill Maryland realiz'd over 8109,000 tins year on their crops All tho maikets, squares, and several of thu streets in Baltimore urn being provided with electric lights. Tho potato crop of the United States will, it is believed, reach 125, 000,000 bushels this year, valued at $100,000,000. The present comet, which has about played out, will bo succeeded by another, tho date of whose ar rival the astronomers fix at -Lily 29,aud its disappearance at Novem ber 12. Notice is given by the treasury department Unit tho five cent nick, cl coins are no longer to be furnish ed by the United .States mint, but may bo had upon application at any ufi.treasmy. Miss Pmudfut is one of tho love liest girls in southern Kansas, and a year ago vvus the recipient of much admiring attention from the opposite sex; but now there is a disposition on the part of tho young men to stay away from her. The change is the fact that three of her suitors have recived gunshot wounds while in her company. It is not known who tho assassin is, but ho is supposed to bo somebody who,, being unable to secure the prize himself, is determined that nobody else shall do so. The Illinois Deadly We,iron Bill.— Both ho :sos of the Illinois le/lslutnre h ive pass it a bill to regulate the c urving of deadly weapons, aud to prohibit their sale to minors. The main features r a penalty of from .$lO to S2OO for carrying a sluugshot or similar w japan, and a pe jalty of s2~i to S2OO for selling or 1 md ing weapons to minors Ad dealers are compelled to keep a register open to the public, giving the names and ages of all persons to whom such weapons are cold, which rc3ord mnst give the price paid and object for which it was bought. The bill also makes it a misdemeanor, punisha ble by iiaes varying from $25 to S2OO, to cairy a razor as a concealed weapon. Lightning struck a field ot notion for Mr Wilb jr Foster, on the McDougant plantation, Chattahoochee county, one day ljst week. Ilia corn patch escaped.
