Georgia Crops- Crops in W>>hington county have *uft" re 1 tor rain, Tlie pea crop for Talbot county in unprecedentedly good. Dry weather will oul off the corn oron in Dodge county. w H Brown, of Talbot county, threshed 739 bushels of oats. Low dues county will have no wosicrq ourn to buy next year. Tlie standard weight of u bushel of cm toil seed is thirty pounds. Corn and cotton have sufferud for ram in sections of Sumter. The dry weather cm off llio wa tei melon crop around S'lndersville. Crops in Stewart county are bot t a than they have boon in three years. The yield ol cotton in Gwinnett county is about one balo to 2 1-4 acres. M.iecn mid Dooly counties will make 19,000 bales of cotton this year. Corn is being ruined by dry weather in suctions of Johnson county. Dry weather has effected the torn in some localities in Tatnal county. Parties are going into sheep-rais ing in Rockdele county on a large scale. B S Boatright, of Tennille, bus sold S3OO worth of peaches from 100 trees. One gentleman in Lowdnes coun ty has netted already SI,GOO on bin watermelons, Forty-eiglit car loads of melons have been shipped from Thouias ville this season, Warren L" l ', ol Wm-o county will realise SBOO per aero for bis grape crop this season, I) L Moor, ol Coweta county, has a plentiful supply of homo raised corn, and some to sell. Corn, cotton, peas, potatoes and can are as good as could bo asked for in Muhin county. Putnam county has ‘235,090 acres of land, of which about two-thirds remain uncultivated. Judge Peeples, of Low Ones conn, ty, has been canning tomatoes and green corn extensively. Some farmers in Laurens county eslimute that from half to two thirds of a corn crop will be made. Mi LL Varnodoe, of Thomas comity, has gathered 100 bushels of pears from twelve to fifteen trees. —•—• — Cotton Enterprise- If there is a good piokiug season in 1881, and the large planting of this year is gathered under favora ble circumstances, an improvement ii liio handling of cotton will not he any longer a question of choice, bnt of necessity. When the crop reaches seven and a half million of bales the last million of uash will either be left on the hands of the planters or sold fur loss than the cost of picking. I saw to day a hulling machine for sep irating tho hulls from the seed, to be operated either by hand, mole or steum power. By the use if ibis machine every cotton farm er could feed the hubs to his own stock, as they are more nutritious i hau hay. The oil Can be taken from the seed, and he can use the meal ou his farm. To do this in stead of shipping, us ttio country ■ lues now, 120,000 tons of cake to Great Britain, wouid be a good tiling. In this machine the lef and stalk of the cotton plant can uo cut up and prep .ivd for stock, these are now wasted entirely. Such a ma chine can be hail it. New York, and yet it is hardly known outside of a lew oil factories which carefully l roicol the trade secrets. It costs more to teed a mule in the south than it does to feed a field hand— n ally three limes as much—and yet the plant, rs do not know of Lius machine, that would convert their very waste into the best O' food. Wnat will incivase the cotton crop ? The feeding of ‘20,000,000 to 40,- 000,00 ) of sheep on what was a • most entireiy wast and a few yearn ago, —Edward Atkins n, America- Recorder: —Mr John Sims wished to doctor his liogH,itnd concluded to use polk root,as it had beeu recommended Ho procure 1 as'ip dy an I put one son to C'ltiio , it up. The root bus somewhat tb appearance cf the parsnip or pota • 1.0. His vonnger sons, Wiilie and Reuse, seeing ihat it was good t 10,.k upon, ate several plugs ■ f the <at n '.k, and pretty soon uav t-igim of trouble bv vomiting, When 31 rB, noileeil it and found they bid been eniitig the polk ro' f, he became alarmed nd used every remedy he could to no effect. Fi nally tie used a powerful emetic, when by i>s effects the poisonous ! root was discharged and the child* rt-n began to recover. All Sorts- Prof. Raoul Pietet, bar mnio a discovery in marine architecture whereby a vessel built on his pn can attain a rate of speed equal to frurn 31 to 37 miles tin hour. Travelers in Europe nre loud in admiration of the public roads, which are never dnstv or muddy. This cannot he suid of America, but then we are rather young yet. The Quitman Free Press says the cotton caterpillar has appeared in large numbers in different portions of Br ooks county, and is doing eou aiderable damage. The most successful tramp in the world has just retired from the road and purchased n $95,090 house in New York. HU maiden name is Grant. Tho Telegraph and Messenger states that Mr 11 J Peter has, on his plantation near Macon, a peach tree of the Crawford late variety, loaded with peaches, but ot such a diminutive size that very few are larger than an ordinary cherry. The peoplo will think all the more of President Garfield because his first use of returning strength was to write to his old mother. That letter will be worth a good deal more than its weight in gold to the future autograph hunti.r. There nre said to bo only ‘200,000 regular attendants iu tho places of worship in Loncon in a population of 4.000,000. By desire of tho late King of Prussia his heart ..as interred in a heart shnpeu marble casket at tho foot of his parents 1 grave. Dr Tanner hu- settled down at Corry. Midi. His limp didn't burn very long, poor man. Tennyson and Huxley delights in clay pipes. This ie encouraging to the corner loafer. North Carolina has 1,75 G bar keepers and 1,270 preachers. Parnell, the Irish Home-Ruler, will again visit this county in No vember, There is but one question, more pressing ia its importance, but huriHy superior in its magnitude before thorn, and that is the speedy anil liberal provision for the euro and maintenance of the insane ot the State, Awake to your duty, legislators ! Be Economical. Look to your spending. No matt t what comes in, if more goes out you will always be poor. The art is not in making money, but in keeping it. Little expenses, like mice io a barn, when they are many make great waste. Hair by hair, feuds gut bald; straw by straw lhe thatch goes off tho cottago, and mop by drop the rain comes into he chamber. A barrel is soon empty, if the tap leaks but a drop a minute WUeu you begin to save, ' egiu with your hh nth—many iltieves pass down tho roJ lane. The ale jug is a great waste. Iu alt other things keep within compass. Never stretch your legs further i hau your blankets will reach, or you will soon be cold. In clothes, choose suitublu and lasting stuff and not to dry fineries. To be warm is 1 tie main thing—nev r mind the looks. A fool may make money, but it needs a wiso man to spend it. Remember it is easier to build two chimneys than to keep one going. If you give rll to back and board, there is nothing left fur I iie savings bank. Furs hard and work hard while you are young, and you will have a chance to rest when you are old.—Frauklin. Nothing but tho Spoils. [New York World.] It is just a little curious that in tbia supreme agony of tho groat and grand old Republican party we do ni iie ir one word about the peril to the Union of a sol and Suntil, nut one w .rd ab ut tho sacredncss of th ballot-box, not one word abou fiuancH and the tariff, not one word al> ut civil service reform, not oho word, in tact, about any subject ex cept the New York custom house rid ttia spoils.
